Things to Do

Walk along Embarcadero from Ferry Building to Fisherman's Wharf
Great view of the Bay and the bridge. If you get hungry there is tons of great food at the Ferry Building (Slanted Door for Vietnamese, Hog Island for Oysters, Golden Gate Meat for Pastrami sandwich, Cowgirl Creamery for chinese, Miette for cupcake/lemon tart, Scharffen Berger for chocolates .... or at Fisherman's Wharf (a cup of chowder or Dungeness crab or Ghirardelli Chocolate)
Visit a museum. There is the MOMA in downtown SF, DeYoung in the Golden Gate Park, Legion of Honor in the Presidio. All great places to simulate the mind and spend a wonderful afternoon. BTW, they all have good cafes for a light lunch
Spend two or three days in wine country. Visit either Napa or Sonoma. Great food and great wine especially abundant in Napa Valley, Yountsville, Calistoga. Napa is quite touristy. Sonoma is more intimate. Some that I have enjoyed in Dry Creek include Dutcher Crossing, Gloria Ferrer, Mazzocco. http://www.sonomawine.com/
Spend a day or two in the Santa Cruz Mountains visiting wineries. Closer than Napa/Sonoma in the North. Some that I like Ahlgren Vineyard for small production not found elsewhere. Bonny Doon and David Bruce bigger operation. Click here for a listing http://www.scmwa.com/wineries.htm
Go on the free chocolate factory tour at Scharffenberger in Berkeley. Call ahead for reservations 510-981-4066 or visit www.scharffenberger.com
Shopping. Union Square for international brand name stores. Fillmore and Union street for sleek and fun.

Grocery Stores/Food Markets

DeLessio (upscale store, has some unique products not found elsewhere, check out the Bakery) www.delessiomarket.com
Wholefoods (well stocked, focuses on healthy eating even though not everything is all that healthy for you - location throughout)
Dragers (upscale store, check out the kitchenware and general store upstairs - several stores in the peninsula incl. one in Menlo Park)
Milk Pail (has an European outdoor market feel, nice cheese selection)

Restaurants

There are too many great restaurants in SF to list. Here are just a few suggestions

Venezuelan food Piqueo's 830 Cortland Ave
Fine Dining - Gary Danko, Dining Room at the Ritz, Fleur de Lys

Bakery

Again, too many to list but here are a few
Tartine Bakery - all their baked items are very good (i personally don't care for their coffee). Try their bread pudding or croissant

Arizmendi Bakery / Cheeseboard - look for their daily specials on the web. Try their cherry corn scones or cheese bread.
