Arrived in SF and met Ella again with her friend Yinong in Dolores park before wandering along Valencia St and grabbing an ice cream and a beer or 2 ( as well as a book from the largest thrift shop I have ever been in).

Next day was the touristy thing - cycle the bay and across Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. Great fun apart from the bridge itself which had pedestrians and cyclists going both ways on one side of the bridge about 5ft wide- not fun.

Then met my Uncle Seamus (4 years older than me) in Sausalito for lunch (we were only an hour late -oops) and a wander round the moorings in the sun. Another beer overlooking the bay and finding out the worlds best gin was from the area ( or so a local said) but when we found it we bought it anyway - a good recommendation - Junipero,

The ferry back across to the city meant we could view the city and Alcatraz from the water - lovely.

Next day was focused on MOMA the museum of modern art. First we had to contend with the fact we had booked the New York one rather than SF - only 3000 miles apart!. Apparently not an uncommon occurence so fairly easily sorted. A great place to spend half a day with some very moving exhibits including Arfur Jafa video installation

Then a wander through to Japantown where we came across crowds of hi ggling tourist all trying this cereal dipped in nitrogen dioxide so of course we had to try it - fun.

Next day onto the hidden steps a great visual and practical idea supported by the local community - wish we had started at the top though instead of the bottom! Followed up by a walk through the park and Haight Ashbury before heading to city lights bookshop and a great bar called Vesuvio. Then round the corner to Tony’s Pizza place - the best pizza in town, and a meet up with Ella and her friends.

Last day in SF saw us walking our legs off again wandering the bay, golden gate park and Chinatown before heading to the science museum.

SF is a great place to be but shorts, t-shirt and woolly pully seem to be the order of the day dependent on whether Karl ( the local weather system ) is in town

Next we are off to Napa where the temperature should be 20degrees (Fahrenheit) warmer
