(The above countdown clock is currently a hair under 46 hours as I write this. I'm sure it'll register as a negative number when this page is accessed in later days...sad...it'll mean all those precious, insouciant road days currently ahead of us will be in the past...but not NOW, not YET. We're in the thick of it, the immediacy our our days--"It's summer, summer!" as old William Carlos Williams once extolled). Enough...onto the non-parenthesized...the non-obscure literary reference... 48 hours! Buzzcut time. Time to lose the locks, streamline, get aerodynamic. No fro to make us slow. The backpacks are buzzing, bursting, rip roaring and ready to go. Life, reduced to what fits in the overhead. The elimination of the unnecessary--TV remotes, cell phones, jobs, combs, watches, Clinton-Obama debates... The plan: head east, come back from the ... read more

So I thought I should finally write a little conclusion to this volume of blogs and to my last year of traveling....thanks to you guys that took the time to read them- I know they were lengthy- but the fact that many of you did become involved in my blogs- you were able to share with me part of my trip, and therefore learned something at the core of who I have become- and it really means a lot to me. This last year....has already started to settle as one of the most inspiring, opening, truth seeking years of my life. So many things that I learned and experienced- tasted, smelled, listened, laughed, cried, fell in love, danced, swam, trekked, swam with dolphins, jumped out of a plane, camped, played and learned music ;), and became ... read more

So I'm leaving in 6 days for San Mateo, and yes, one thing off the checklist. I've created this lovely blog, which apparently is more for "travelers" than crazy people who are staying in one cold place for an entire year to work. These past days have been fun, in anticipation of trips to REI for fleeces and trader joes for massive quantities of peanut butter. I haven't left any of you yet so I don't miss you---but I will very shortly... read more

I'll start off where I left off, my trip to Kojo's in Charlton. So after getting to London Victoria I had reached Kojo and also learned his cell was running out of battery. We decided to make it easier on myself since i didnt know the area too well and head to the London Bridge station. Not thinking about time and obviously location, we soon learned that was the worst idea possible. Because of rain, part of the train track had been flooded, or so they said, and the London Bridge station was huge. There was the Underground and the British Rail Way and both had 2 different locations to come in at. Not knowing this for the first 30 minutes i was there i stayed in a pretty busy area where i thought i ... read more

"Come meet me in the park," my phone said, and after I was done using the internet in the library, I hurried in that direction. Halfway there, as I began to follow the crosswalk, a little white car pulled up right in front of me, parking or something. How rude! I almost had time to work up some anger, and then: Need a ride? It was Josh. I smiled. We drove to Golden Gate Park. We got out and walked to a big green field, where kids were playing soccer, old men were banging on drums, dreadheds were playing frisbee with their dogs, little girls chasing each other around, some skater dudes played with a Thai hackey sack, and people were just hanging around on blankets having picknicks or playing their guitars. It felt like a ... read more

25 November 2006 After spending a longer time than expected, at thanksgiving shopping yesterday, we needed a break. Ganesh's bible (101 hikes in California) had a quick browse. We picked this hike in the Marin Headlands(an hr from home). Hwy 1 was closed for construction after Muir Beach. But we double checked that up to Muir beach, the roads were fine. This hike titled “The Head out” started right from Muir Beach. We parked the car in this huge parking lot. After checking the trail map there, Ganesh was so dejected as the trail that was going close to the Ocean was closed for construction. We thought of going the farthest we could and turn back, have some time out in the beach before heading back home. The trail started climbing with this whole bunch of ... read more

Spent Thanksgiving weekend at the Green Gulch Zen Center. Rented a cottage with a great view of the ocean and mountains. We went for a hike Thanksgiving morning; the weather was spectacular with crystal clear skies. We had to hike up to the cottage with our food and supplies, took us 45 minutes cause the wine was so heavy ;) ... read more
