“Our family had decided to fly to California to visit Mom's mother and father. Almost like pioneers of a sort we ventured forth in our small four seat single engine plane from Chicago. On the trip we had many exciting events, some totally delightful, but interspersed with frightening mountains to be crossed with the inevitable turbulence that caused our hearts to jump with fear for our safety. On the occasion that I will always remember, as we approached Albuquerque the very severe air convections made it highly desirable to make an unscheduled landing. When we stepped out upon solid land, you looked up at me and said, "NO MORE FLYING TODAY, DADDY." After we tucked you into bed at our motel that evening Mom and I wondered what your reaction would be when we arrived back at the airport for the next leg of our trip. We needed not worry. You climbed back into the airplane ready to go. We found that we had a two year old girl with great courage and fortitude who seemed to know how to take the good with the bad!”

What a trooper, eh? Guess this is an example of what is to come later in life!

I have written in a journal since my sister was born (sorry Krissy…) in 1963. I corresponded with my family from my East Coast boarding school. I was a pen pal long before email was invented. Though I have written on many other subjects and situations, the topic of TRAVEL continues to inspire and intrigue me. Recounting a trip in written form seems to make the experience more real and invites this dreamer to...well...dream some more! It puts a smile on my face and a lift in my step to re-live my journeys through word and picture. My intention for my travel blog is to create interesting, inspiring, perhaps even entertaining photo essays and share them with my friends and family. I get one step closer to writing that book. So won’t you join me please?
