After an amazing time in San Francisco, we head off on the BART to the airport for our flight to Los Angeles, and this is where it all started.
First of all, we checked the board to see that our flight had been cancelled, so they put us on stand by for another flight, which happens to be a delayed flight from before ours, so we rushed through security, and legged it to the gate just in time.
When we arrived at LAX, Jen was a little disappointed as still cloudy everywhere and no sunshine again. As we were waiting for our luggage, Jens didn’t arrive, so we had to go to the info desk, only to be told that it was put on the flight after ours, so we had to wait another 20mins. Once Jens bag had arrived, we noticed the lock had been bust, so panicking, Jen quickly opened the bag and checked to find a government security message saying that they had to bust the lock to check her contents. Thankfully nothing was missing.
We the took the flyaway over to union station, and had to get the red line to Hollywood boulevard, only
to mistakenly get on the purple line, but luckily we could swap over further into the journey.
Finally we get here to our new home for the next few days. We met Caitlyn the owner, who was really nice and friendly, who showed us round. See the pics.
Our first night consisted of a walk down Hollywood, seeing all the stars in the footpath, there’s hundreds! I was well happy to find Ritchie Valens star from La Bamba (Jacko would of appreciated it)
We decide to check out a few bars, so we go and have a few cocktails on the strip, and notice there were Mexicans everywhere (we’d only arrived on Mexican Independence day!) Around 10.30pm we decide to have an early night and retire into another very comfy double bed. After spending 4 days in a bunk bed, you can appreciate how happy we were.
Our 2nd day in Hollywood was really exciting, we knew that my parents along with Joyce, Andy, Gaz and Gemma Parr were all meeting us for a tour of Hollywood and then for a slap up meal at a fancy restaurant in Beverley hills called “Villa Blanca”.
As
we woke the sun was back and it was scorching…the tour was amazing, took us to the Hollywood sign (see pics) then took us to several celebrity houses to see where they all lived and what their houses were like. We got to see…Elvis Presley’s old house, Madonna’s, Jennifer Aniston’s, George Clooney, Ozzy Osborne, Ronald Regan, Al Pacino, Eddie Murphy, Katy Perry n Russell Brands house and several more. We just missed someone going into Russell brands house as well as when we pulled up the gate was closing. Gutted! The tour lasted around 2.5 hrs then we headed off back to the apartment to get ready for the meal,
We got a taxi to Beverley hills, going past Rodeo drive where Pretty woman was filmed, and got some amazing pics of cars (Gav would of loved it) and even the shop where Julia Roberts was sent out of cos she was a hooker in Pretty Women. When we arrived at the Villa Blanca, it was a very fancy restaurant and fancy prices too but fortunately the parents split it for us he he, As we were all having our meals, a Bentley pulled up with its private reg
if VB8, it was only the owner Lisa Vanderpump (one of the real housewives of Beverley hills from the tv show.) The manager must of mentioned to her that we were from England cos she came straight over to our table and had pics with us all before she set off with her husband to the Emmy’s pre party. After an amazing meal and catch up with the parents and close neighbours we set off back to the strip for some late night drinks.
For our 3rd day in L.A we decided to get out of Hollywood and see some more of L.A so we took the bus down to Venice beach. Once we arrived it was like something off TV, rollerblades everywhere, street acts and loads of muscle bound men and very FIT athletic women. We decided to stroll all the way across Venice beach into Santa Monica which was also lovely, with a pier, but was frustrating having all these shops like Abercrombie n Fitch etc but no money to treat ourselves, so we just browsed and then found an English pub for a nice pint of cider before getting the bus back.
So, for the
final day in L.A, we decided to go to Warner Bros studios. It started off with a 10 minute presentation showing all the films they had done. I’d forgotten how big Warner Bros were! Once the presentation had finished we went onto the tour around 110 acres of it. The 1st stop was the set from the series the Mentalist, I hadn’t seen it but apparently its big, The 2nd stop was probably the best bit, of the tour. We walked round the studio and walked into Central Perk from FRIENDS (see the pic with us on the actual couch!) The tour guide told us that after they finished filming they were going to get rid of it but then Jay Leno and other talk show hosts kept wanting to interview the stars there, so they decided to keep it. Its so tiny, the tour guide explained how the camera tricks people into thinking its big, but when you watch the program again, she told us to count the steps it takes them to walk to the bar and couch and you’ll realise its all camera tricks. After the excitement of the Friends set, we then rode off to the
next studio which had all famous vehicles from films such as Batman, Arthur, Austin Powers, Gran Torino and my favourite car in there…the Mercedes from the Hangover film that Doug drives all the lads down to Vegas in. Apparently there were 4 made, but the other 3 were the ones with all the dents in, this one was the one from the beginning of the film untouched.
Onto the next part of the tour we went onto a street which had been used in many movies such as Stanley Ipkiss apartment (The Mask) The old lady who gets thrown from the window (Gremlins) The scene from the building with the Spiderman kiss (the one wear he was upside down) Phoebe’s parents house when she meets her brother Frank, and the house that filmed the scene where Ross comes down the stairs with his afro and moustache for Monica and Rachel’s prom night (see the pic)
Once the tour finished we got the 222 bus back, which took another hour (L.A is massive) then decided to grab a Mexican from a restaurant called Cabo Catina before retiring back to the apartment to sort the cleaning and clothes…rock n roll!
NEXT STOP………….VEGAS…..we’ll keep you posted.
