HAPPY EASTER TO ALL AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BECKA

This past week Jennifer, my daughter, came to stay with us for her spring break. Jennifer, now prefers to be known as Katherine, her middle name. This is a family name which honors 2 aunts, who recently passed away and a great-grandmother.

Katherine arrived on Monday. We had been saving some trips for her visit. One day we rode bikes around Green Valley to relax and become familiar with the area. Then we started off on 3 trips to Nogales, Mexico, Kitt Peak National Observatory and the Biosphere2. One of her courses now is astronomy, so her favorite place was Kitt Peak.

Nogales was quite a hoot. Just going from store to store and experiencing a different place and culture was great. We ate a very good Mexican lunch in Mexico.

Our last trip was north of Tucson to the Biosphere2(Biosphere1 is the earth). We found out the 2 attempts for humans to live in this biosphere and live totally on what was available did not work. There many unexpected problems. One individual financed the entire project. Then Columbia University bought it and used it for a few years. Now it is up for sale, a "white elephant" you might say. It is being used only to show traveler's and school children now.

On Saturday, Katherine returned to San Francisco. It is sad to say good-bye. Now we are finishing up our visit to mostly sunny and warm Arizona. Our next blog will be sent from Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Cool Pics
Interesting pictures on Kits Peak. Katherine I haven't seen you in many years. Someday we will again. I am honored you choose Katherine for a name - that you think so highly of my mom and our Great Aunt. I have done a bit of genealogy work and have found C(K)atherines throughout the generations of all sides of my family. The tradition continues... - Mark Heike
