Internet has been hard this week, but not that we spent much time needing it anyways. We stayed with 2 of Matt's friends in Ausin; Tyler who goes to University of Texas in Austin, and Carter who visited us in the UK. Both friends of Matt's from Camp. We stayed with Tyler in his dorm on campus, so got to see Austin as if we were a student there. We went for Texas style bbq, got to see an African Festival on campus which was pretty unorganised but still a little good and had some contraban on campus (beer in the dorm) while teaching Tyler to play Shitheadwith the cards.
Carter lives near Barton Springs, just south of Austin. We spend a day walking along the lake and into town and back again - 7.5miles ech! Carter took us to our first beer festival, which to us is and Ale Festival as they didnt sell lager. Tasted some real nice American beers and Matt got to hold a pet pig, no really see the photos! We went out drinking in Austin with Carter, which was funny watching the doorman getting confused at our British id's. We also went for wings at
pluckers, very tasty! On our first night with Carter he took us to his Aunts for some 'proper food' and met a lot of his cousins, one of which was running a triathalon (half iron man) the next day, which consisted of 1.3mile swim, 56mile bike ride and a half marathon run, 13miles. ouch! We went to see Elise (Carters cousin) in the Triathalon with her friends, we arrived just as she was finishing the bike ride, it looked like she had just been on it for 5 minutes! Stayed while she done the run, when she finished she was so tired she could barely stand, but we were both really impressed. We also walked across and under the bridge with the world's largest urban bat colony, we didn't see the bat's but could definatley hear them and smell them even more.
After Ausin we moved on to Dallas, the place where JFK was assassinated. We surfed with Jenna and Ian who were awesome people, took us to a haunted house, which was soo scary, kerry jumped so much she broke the camera in her bag. Matt loved it, Kerry said never again. Although, Jenna did give us a new
saying, 'try everything twice as the first time might be a fluke!' Jenna also cooked us some food after we spend some time in downtown Dallas visiting the JFK memorial and seeing the road where he was shot. After travelling right the way through Texas and it being red hot, Dallas was cold man! So travelling even furhter North to Oklahoma we knew we'd need our huddy's out, no more shorts and dresses :-(
Oklahoma city wasn't a place we originally planned to visited, it was added after we visited Nashville. We stayed with Benny, who's originally from Vietnam, but has lived in Europre from being a teenager and then moved to Oklahoma. What can we say, WE LOVE BENNY. He's an awesomely sound and funny guy. He took two days off work to spend time sight-seeing with us. We got to see Downtown and visited the memorial of the terrorist attack in 1995, which was beautiful but a really sad place. We got to hang out with some of Bennys friends, and also meet his son, Andrew, who coaches high school football (the American one) we even got to catch the end of one of his games. We tasted
crown, well Kerry did, Matt wasn't brave enough, which was horribly strong ( Crown = a really strong spirit ) and got to celebrate a birthday for Snow, a friend of a friend of Benny's. Oklahoma City wouldn't have been worth seeing if we hadn't have stayed with Ben so big big Thanks.
Sending Love
Matt and Kerry x
