We didn't spend much time in Nashville, but the time we did spend was great. Our hosts, Bradley and Franchesa were great, Bradley helped plan where we're going to travel through the Gran Canyon and also told us about the free concert that we went to 'live on the green'. If you ever get the chance to, Nashville's well worth a visit. The town's really pretty and it's like walking through your very own little musical. We got to see Marie Hines, Brett Dennen, Rayland Baxter, also Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors. None of which we had heard of, most we enjoyed.
Having to pay for accommodation is sad :-( especially when you book into a totally crap hostel, it totally sucks..... We arrived in New Orleans at 5.30 am and couldn't check in until 2pm so got wired with about 5 million coffees at this little coffee cafe 'MOJO' across the road from the hostel. The hostel itself used to be an orphanage (you know like something you would see people getting killed in in a scary movie) which was a massive building that really needed some TLC. To sum it up, Matt found a cockroach in the tub and
Kerry got bit about 15 times but it had a bed and 4 walls so it served it's purpose. Going out in New Orleans is awesome so so so much fun, the only thing is that we kind of miscalculated how much we can actually drink so headed out a 5 ish and were then heading home at 10 ish while hammered as things were just getting started there. The French Quarter consists of streets of bars with 2nd floor balcony's that people stand on with loads of beads, the people on the street flash their boobs to get the people on the balcony to throw them beads. People just walk from bar to bar drinking on the streets so cool. We got so drunk! The GRANADE the drink to drink is a really nice, fully loaded alcoholic drink in a really cool plastic glass (that's on it's way back to the UK right now) when asked 'what's in it?' we got 'it's a secret' back. Visit New Orleans for a brilliant night out but be prepared as the granade set us back $8 each!
Hay Bunny you took my Tuscaloosa heart..... We back tracked to Alabama to visit Blake,
a friend of Matt's from Camp America to just chill out and relax. Tuscaloosa got hit last year with an F4 Tornado which was one of the biggest recorded in history, we got to see the path that the tornado took and see the homes that are still detroyed. The first night Blake, who goes to the University of Alabama took us out with his friends to a place called the Bear Trap, $5 to get in, 25 cent for a mixed drink (vodka, whiskey, rum or tequilla with a mixer) yes only 25 cent. We then went to another bar where we had a yellow hammer drink which was so so nice. Blake showed us around the campus which has a football stadium, (American football) that holds 110,000 and that's just for college ball, it's massive! Blake's also part of a fraternity, so staying at his house was so entertaining. We had first year pledges that Blake had called, come round, come in the door backwards and do what ever Blake wanted! They cleaned, did the dishes, walked the dog, took out the rubbish. Well funny but all first years go through it. We both got the in's and out's
of being a brother and it was pretty interesting finding out stuff. We got to just hang out and relax while in Tuscaloosa which was great. Thank You Blake.
Sending Love
Matt & Kerry
