AN ISLAND ADVENTURE

During Christmas 2006, my wife Angie and I went to Cozumel to snorkel. We flew into Cancun, took a bus to Playa del Carmen and rode a ferry to Cozumel. At the end of the trip, we stayed in downtown Cancun for one day and one night. We enjoyed exploring the city and decided that we would return to downtown Cancun and visit Isla Mujeres.

Back Again!

On December 17, 2007, we flew into Cancun and checked into Grand Royal Lagoon Hotel. The hotel faced the lagoon side of the hotel zone and had a very nice restaurant facing the water. Angie and I are not very picky about hotels. As long as the room is clean, cheap, and the location is safe, we will stay there. This hotel satisfied all of our requirements. During our three day stay in Cancun, we explored the beaches on the hotel zone and took a bus trip to Chichen Itza.

We left Cancun by ferry for Isla Mujeres on the fourth day. The island was awesome! It seemed as if everyone moved at a slower pace on this island. Most locals drove mopeds and

the tourists rented golf carts. Our hotel was right in front of North Beach, which is considered one of the best beaches on the island. We also got lucky with our room. The hotel clerk was planning to place us in a second floor room, but I asked her if we could have a room on the top floor. She granted me the request and gave us a key for a room on the fourth floor.

A Room with a View!

As we walked up to the room, the last flight of stairs ended at the roof top. I told Angie that we had gone too far, so we came back to the third floor and looked around. I could only see room numbers beginning with 300. I saw a housekeeper who couldn’t speak very much English and showed her the key. She pointed back at the flight of stairs leading to the roof. Angie and I looked at each other in confusion. She led us up the stairs to the roof and pointed to a small building in the far corner. It was our room! We had a private suite on top of the roof. The

view was amazing! We saw a beautiful sunset every evening and could see the ocean very clearly. Most of views from the other rooms were blocked by coconut trees.

So, we spent three days playing in the ocean, eating fresh seafood, and walking around the island. Isla Mujeres had so many seafood restaurants that it made it difficult for us to choose one every night. Our most enjoyable moments were sitting on the roof, watching the sun set in the ocean, and looking at the stars. As we left the island, we decided that we would come back again.
