Hangin in La Cruz
Ah, Robin really loves this cruising life-style, loves to have something to do other than read and relax.. Well, I'm trying to put these photos on this blog, and hopefully I have a good strong connection, it will work.
Before I do that, I will give you a little sampling of the crusing life....Not cocktails in the cockpit. Today we are getting ready to leave La Cruz, and it's non too soon. I think we overstayed our visit, but when Robin had to replace the steering cables, I knew it would be a few days.
The weather is HOT and MUGGY in the mornings before the breeze fills in, but then when the breeze fills in, the seas become rough and we always get wet coming into the beach or back out to the boat. We are slowly learning to take care of business ashore in the morning. It's taken us ,, hmmmm, let me see here,,... maybe two weeks of slowly getting up in the morning, to getting up in the morning and getting ashore quickly. Well, today we had to get three big bags of laundry that we had done and bring them back to the boat before the seas got too choppy...(it happened to us once, and I was like mother hubbard cowering over
Oh, Oh, Grumpmeter is rising
As the grump meter goes up, I move away.. the clothes bags so they wouldn't get salty, coz once something gets salty, it stays damp...ish... for a long time ) So it was hot and muggy, but I got Robin to move a little earlier today. Then when we got the laundry back on board, we went ashore with 4 x 2 1/2 gallon containers to get water out to the boat. WHEW! They were heavy, and we had to pay for WATER! Luckily we have our handy-dandy little rolling fold-able cart and foldable crate, (which is a lifesaver and I LOVE), so it was HOT & MUGGY & STICKY, but we got the water to the boat before we were splashed all about. Then it was noon, and we were exhausted.... mostly because it was HOT, MUGGY & STICKY!
We decided to buy some gas containers for extra deisel to carry along the rails of the boat. Getting fuel is not necessarily easy, at least here it wasn't easy. So we thought it may be a good idea to carry extra fuel for those incidences when we may not beable to get fuel.
We checked the stores here in La Cruz...NADA... Then we took a bus to
More repair fun
Steering cable fundango...ohh, are we having fun now, NOT! the next town. We had to go to the bank to change some US $, so we went to a the one bank first...like everyone else did on this Monday (after Friday payday). I stood in line for about 45 minutes, with a bulding full of people. Luckily it was AIR-CONDITIONED!! YEAH! A little of the good and the bad mixed together, I'd say. After the bank we had to walk back into the town to check out some hardware stores for these fuel tanks....NONE! We caught a bus to a Home Depot that is on the way to Puerto Vallarta. The bus is hauling down the main highway, and we had to run to the front and tell the driver to stop, as he was zooming past our stop. We had to run across the big highway,,("running for the border" game..."side joke)
and walk back to Home Depot. Nice, bright , beautiful AIR-CONDITIONED store....Ahhhh! But, the fuel containers were flimsy little ones, almost like toys kids would pretend play with. So we had to go back across the highway, and flag down a bus. I thought we may have to hail a taxi, as the traffic was zooming, but
Trying to keep a straight face
I really had to bite my tongue as Robin is crawling back into the lazerette.. He absolutely HATES this area of the boat, but I HAD to take a photo of this for good old documentation purposes... really... some nice bus driver pulled over and picked us wayward gringos up.
We are now headed further away from our boat, heading downtown to Puerto Vallarta. Finally we see our stop and jump up to the front of bus so we won't miss it. We head to the marine store (like a West Marine store in San Diego), and we are pleased as punch to find our regular looking gasoline containers. We had to pay an arm and leg for them, but they are good, sturdy and will work out fine. Now we had to hope we could get a bus that wasn't crowded with "end of day" commuters going home as it was now about 4:40pm. The transportation gurus were our friends that day. We got a partially filled bus, so I got to share my ride with my big brand new red fuel container. The bus ride was like Mr. Toads's Wild ride at Disneyland. This guy was really an erratic driver. The worse of our two weeks there.
When we finally reached La Cruz., we were glad to end the day. We stopped and picked up a roasted chicken and Robin got his 6 pack
Robins new toy
Thank you Richard, Robin got his NEW PROJECT piece hand delievered to him. I hope we are in a good swimming area when this project commences. of beer. (His grump meter was climbing by this time), and headed back to the boat. The wind had died now, so it was an easy ride back out. Not too much splashing, just a little. A little is OK, a lot leaves you a little unhappy,,, again it's the sailty clothes that never feel good until they are washed.
Took a side trip to a town called Salulita on Sunday. It is a surfing mecca, and tons of gringo artsy-crafty stores (all along the main drag and near the beach). We walked down the beach a ways and it was nice. We sat under a coconut palm for shade, and I actually donned a bathing suit, and took the plunge into the great Pacific. IT WAS COLD! I was soo bummed, but I was also HOT & SWEATY, so I took the plunge another time also. We were going to take a nice long walk down the beach (heading north), but the sand was so soft and the sand by the water was really soft too, that we got pretty tired after about 20 min,. of walking, so we turned around and hoofed it to a outdoor chicken
Early Morning Guest
A young, old, ?? different type of seagull was sitting on the bow, and wouldn't move, no matter how close we got. It was gone when we came back later. Maybe needed a rest..Just no pooping on the deck, please place and munched some food. I'm glad we went, as it was a really pretty spot once you got away from the crowds. Lots and lots of surfers there. You can rent surfboards and boogey boards. There is a campground right by the beach where lots of young people were camping. Reminds me when....
When we got back to town, we came out to the boat, then showered and returned to the beach to see this "new" cruising friend play music at an "opne mic" place. After we had eaten some good and cheap tacos, we went to the place, and he had just finished. He said he would probably play again in a little while, so we waited and waited (the other band was really good though, so it wasn't a bad wait) but he didn't get to play again. Got back to the boat about 11:30pm, and bed felt good,
Tomorrow it filling more water, getting ice, then heading to the MEGA super, super store, to stock up on some food and beer, and Wed. hoping to head south. We will probably ( I want to) head to a small bay call Bahia de Tenacatita (sp?) then
Sayulita
Neat, neat little town atmosphere, but kinda upscale too. The beach was long and nice waves. in a day or so, round the curve to Barra de Navidad.
Will update in a few days if the internet connection is good. Thanks to all for the messages, we love them, and you, for responding. I hope you do enjoy our travels and photos. It's fun to write and take pictures.
Take care to all our love one, Robin & Jean
