Day Trip to Puerto Vallarta
Tons of tourists here. Big malecon by the water Hello Everyone, Well, I thought I would wait a while before I write about our time here.
The basic town is simple, somewhat dusty, like most small Mexican villages. They do have some streets that are cobblstone which definitely stops a lot of dust, but not all, especially the outlying areas. There are so many Canadians living here year round, the small Mexican town atmosphere (like Turtle Bay) is non-existent! There are some nice eateries catering to those gringos, but can be expensive.
The food here is good, but the prices are a little like the US, I feel due to the influx of so many gringos. There are alot of whiteheads here. Robin says to me, "Am I like these people?" YEAH! I think so !!!
We have met some nice people here, but for us we are a little on the outside looking in. I think a lot of people came down in Nov. with the Ba Ha Ha, and made aquaintances then.
I am a little bored at times. We´ve walked and taken buses all over the place, but mainly just towns. There are some nice beaches via bus from us, but you have to
Typical Dusty Street
What is behind the gorgeous houses on the street is amazing. Like night and day. go far for snorkeling, and the hand fishing (with a pole) is not too good where we are. We buy fish though, and other meats, and do a lot of cooking on the boat. We´ve eaten out a few times, but not too many.
We´ve found that our steering cable is frayed somewhat, and now we need to fix it before we leave! Went to the dentist for a cleaning, and he found a cavity that I need to have fixed. Robin ordered a part and it´s arriving tomorrow with the SD to Puerto Vallarta race support van. Thank you Richardo for all your work. It´s an autopilot that will attach to our wind steering vane and drive it, like the large one we have down under deck by the steering column. The underdeck autopilots are very expensive, so this smaller one is a little cheaper and will be a backup for us.
I really want to head further south where hopefully we can snorkel, swim kyak and fish and explore some more. Everyone tells us that if we need anything important, that this is the place to get your supplies, otherwise they will be harder and more
Dingly Landing
This is what we see landing the dingy everyday. Some nice oceanfront property.. expensive to get.
Getting browner and browner and more and more well-read! This part of cruising is sooo different than passage making. During the passage, you are constantly alert for changes in weather, etc. Once you throw anchor, you just hang out. Our anchor did drag after the fourth day here. Robin and I were sitting in the boat reading (what else!) and our neighbor hails us.. "Robin, Robin" We poke our heads out and our stern is almost right on top of his bow! He laughs (real easy going guy) and says, "Heh, this would make a good picture.." We jump into action, start the engine and try to re-achor the boat about three times till it takes. We put out over 100 feet of chain, which we hadn´t before. It was truly blowing like snot too! It was a little unnerving, but you do what you need to. At first, we were a little anxious leaving the boat. Our neighbor, Bill, says to leave the key in the ignition and the windless on (the windless is the machine that pulls up and lets down the anchor chain). Well, one day we just said, we can´t be slaves
Robin & Dingy
Robin taking care of dingy in front of these " I want one" houses on the beach to this boat when the wind blows, so we took off. We were told of someone leaving their boat and it started to drag, and there wasn´t anyway anyone in the anhorage could start the engine, it ran aground and was destroyed. UGG! So far, the chain is holding, and we´ve had some really strong blows in the afternoon. We actually put on the GPS system that has an achor alarm, so that if we drag and move a little, it will sound, but it won´t let us know when we are somewhere else. Oh, well!
Hopefully you enjoy these photos. Will update as we reach another destination.
Good will , health and happiness to all,
Robin & Jean
