Ready for rain
This is the street all boarded up for rain and the hurricane. (Don't worry, it never came...) Oh man, I'm such a little comedian. haha ooo. I apologize for my bad puns. haha.
Ok, now because of technical difficulties this is the 3rd time I have written this blog, .... OIE! i love the internet.. but sommmeetimess..... ooooo
So we left friday for GDL, even though we were supposed to leave Thrusday. Hurricane John cancelled my conference in Mazatlan because it was really dangerous to travel. Puerto Vallarta was ready for it, but nothing happened. The malecon was all closed and boarded up other than a few bars for tourists. Everything within a 6 block radius was closed, but all was well, there weren't even waves in the ocean!!
So we drove to GDL on friday, and the 5 hour drive actually takes about 9 since we stop alot before we even get on the way, for Eduardos business. And because there are pretty much no Gas station, Wandering River, type stops, we stopped at a sit down place for dinner.
Saturday was shopping day for Sundays Family-Lunch-Food-Gathering-Thing (I have no idea what to call it, but if you do, please tell me because it will come up again and a name would be
Chivas/Atlas stadium
This is the Stadium in GDL where the Chivas and Atlas play. Also where riots occur depending on the day... useful). Lupita, Gaby(her daughter) and I went to the Carneria (stores here are easy to figure out, because some have the (type of merchandise)+eria ; ie Carne(meat)ria... Papel(paper)eria... you get the idea). Also, I went out for lunch with one of the cousins. I was very proud of myself. We got through a whole afternoon adn she doesnt speak english and we actally had good conversations!
Saturday was also Soccer Night in Mexico!! Ha Ha. I went with Juan(a son), his son and daughter, Eduardo, and one of Juan Pablo(my host cousin)'s friend. We saw Team Guadalajara (the chivas, red and white strip jerseys) tie a team 1-1. It was so fun to go see a live game in a country that LIVES soccer. It was funny when we were driving, we could tell we were going in the right direction because there were tons of people in Chivas Jerseys walking the direction we were going. After the game, I wanted to buy a jersey, but Juan kept saying the price they were asking was too expensive, so he gave me His!! and this is the guy that gave me one of him Virgin of Guadalupe statues... he's so
generous!
Sunday I went with Juan and Juan Pablo to their soccer game, and then Juan took me to a game of a team his friend was the coach of. It was a guys team ,and they were 20-something., and I played with them for a half! It was SOOOO hot, and we played on a dust field. It was exciting, but SO scary to start. For starters I couldnt really talk to them, haha. But one guy, the captain Im assuming, was nice, and said good job in all the right places. haha. Anyway, it was cool to play. I made some good passes, missed one goal. Didn't make that much of a fool out of myself which is nice.
I also made a better impression on the family at the family event(still need a name people. haa). I got to have a shower, and this time I knew it was coming so I brought nice clothes. haha. Good times again. and of course there was another birthday, with a family of more than 25, chances are someone has a birthday soon.
Eduardo and Lupita have gone back to PV, and I am staying here with
Crazy cheering section!
This is that section, with all the flags and colors and chants! I want a ticket for there! Mariana´s (Ed/Pitas granddaughter, who is in Edmonton right now as an exchange student with Rotary too) Family. Gaby and Juan Pablo have school until 2, but I have just been working on translating my Canada presentation into spanish.
But I leave tomorrow for my conference, and I cant wait to fill up my blazer with rockin' pins! haha. Peace till then!
