The month of March began with an evening at Piano Rojo. We have definitely become regulars there. It is a small but very fun place. Here we can experience the same shows that are much more expensive in other cities.
Tonight we attended the Forever Elvis Show. Rob Knight who is a Canadian is Elvis. Sitting in our front row centre seats we had a great time.

You would think we have attended enough Zayacas for our visit to Mexico but this is the last Zayacas this year before carnival. It is becoming very familiar. We recognise the people in the parade and they recognise us. As we become familiar we are much more likely to be attacked with flour.
The parties at the Malecon after the parade are becoming bigger and better. So there was no way we could miss this last celebration before carnival.
As a side note, on our way home, we stopped at the corner store for some eggs. My island friends will be proud of the fact that after many years, I am finally able to carry eggs in a plastic bag
rather than a carton and arrive home with them all intact.

Normally we attend the Lakeside Little Theatre performances on a Saturday. This month however, we went on a Monday night. The show was a musical, Hooray for Hollywood. It was well done and very enjoyable. This is probably the last performance that we will attend at Lakeside Little Theatre before leaving. It is a lovely theatre, there are no bad seats and we have greatly enjoyed all of the performances.

Today is carnival in Ajijic. It seems like only yesterday we attended the last Zayacas but it was two days ago. The crowds are out in full force today. This is not just a parade of costumed guys throwing flower followed by horsemen and women. This is the real thing. There are more costumed boys and men, bigger bags of flower.
Today is Pancake Tuesday and we had French Toast for breakfast rather than pancakes. During the parade I felt I had enough flour in my mouth to equate to eating (potential) pancakes for lunch.
Floats are now part of the parade and there were many. The
horse riders even included a bull rider.

I’m almost embarrassed to say that we went to Piano Rojo again, this time to see Miss Conception. It was a fun show, drag queen style. Miss Conception is another Canadian who gets away from the cold by performing in Mexico and warmer places during the winter.

Well plan “A” for today was to go to Jocotepec. That was until Jorge and Alejandra told us they were going shopping in Guadalajara and invited us. Although we have driven through Guadalajara many times now and visited a few different suburbs including the zoo we haven’t seen Centro Guadalajara so there was no question, a visit to Jocotepec could wait for another day.
Maryanne jumped at the opportunity too. At 2 pm we all climbed into the Chevy Blazer and headed to Guadalajara. Our first stop was in Tonala where we had a nice lunch at a seafood place. Rick and I shared barbecued fish. I have no idea what kind of fish we ate but it was wonderful. A Mariachi band played us and everyone else in the restaurant
while we were eating.
After lunch, we separated and went for serious tourist shopping while Ale and Jorge went to run some errands.
The Saturday market was still going on but some of the venders were starting to pack up as we walked through the area. We had no problem purchasing things. Maryanne tried to buy some pistachio nuts and the guy was about to rip her off when we sad thanks but no thanks to his prices.
We all met back at the vehicle and Jorge drove us into downtown Guadalajara. There are many beautiful buildings, theatres, museums, government offices and churches.
We walked through Guadalajara Centro and Liberation Square which appears to be one of the more historic areas of Mexico. There are a lot of pedestrian only areas which makes it very pleasant to stroll around. There were a lot of venders, entertainers and families enjoying the surroundings. There was an area of little electric cars that children were playing in. These reminded us very much of the same cars on Paseo Colon in Puerta La Cruz, Venezuela which was a very family oriented area.
We had a very enjoyable evening and
it was well after dark when we left and headed back to Ajijic.

I have wanted to see a Folkloric Ballet since we arrived in Mexico and for some reason or other we keep missing them. Not this time. I purchased tickets for the Ballet Folclorico Ixtlanahuacan performing at the auditorium. The tickets did not have seat assignments so we arrived very early to ensure we had good seats. It was worth the wait. Maryanne and Paul joined us. The show was fantastic and went on for hours. The music, costumes and dancers were excellent.
After the show, Rick and I went for lunch at the Pranzo restaurant which is almost next door to the auditorium.

Rick and I were both desperate for a haircut. We weren’t very pleased with our last cut at the Mayan Spa so decided to try another salon closer to home. It’s called the New Look Studio. We had an appointment for 11 am. What a difference, this salon is the busiest I have seen in town but they keep the appointments nicely on time. We were both very pleased with our
cut; I also had a very good manicure and pedicure. Total price for everything was less than $40 CDN. It was so good, we have already booked our next appointment in April and I am returning for a facial and massage next week.
