Ready, set, push!
Baby is ready to deliver! November 27th and we were on our way home to Saskatoon via Puerto Vallarta. Vicki and Cory, Linda's son and his girlfriend were expecting the arrival of their first child, a boy, due date November 28th. We planned on being there for the event.
Easiest and cheapest flights back happened to be through Puerto Vallarta and that worked out great. We were able to get in touch with old friends, spend a lovely evening strolling the new malecon and then enjoy dinner at Linda's favorite PV restaurant, Cafe Ola.
Next evening, we landed a little early in Saskatoon, got stopped by the customs agent and were then greeted by Kody. The weather was quite bearable and we enjoyed the fresh crisp winter air. We headed over to Cory and Vicky's with the hopes of bringing that baby on ..... we tried but no luck! Kristen and Kurtis joined the crowd. What a great welcome home!
We spent the next few days settling in, not wandering too far from home as we were still waiting for that baby to arrive. Finally, on December 2nd, Tai Alec joined us, weighing in at a healthy 8lbs, 8ozs! Linda says Vicki never
Tai Alec Popoff
Born December 2, 2012 at about 5:50 pm. Weight 8 lbs 8 oz! Good work Vicky! even broke a sweat or messed her makeup. Tai Alec Popoff made his appearance right around 6PM. Both Mom and baby were fine, and settled into the Victorian suite for the next 5 days. Tai developed jaundice, which, we were told was very normal for Asian babies.
On Sunday, we drove up to Marc's and spent the day with Marc, Holly, their 2 children as well as Leslie and Brian's three kids. It was a houseful! Brian and Leslie were off to Puerto Vallarta for a week. We got to enjoy our 3 grandchildren for the next week! We stopped, on our way home, to visit Maurice's parents. It's always a pleasure for Mom and Dad to see some of their great-grandchildren!
We spent the week decorating for Christmas, chipping ice off the driveway, skating at a couple of local rinks, swimming and keeping busy with three little ones. It was like having 3 fun toys to play with. The following weekend, we traveled back to Marshall to greet the travelers and welcome them back home.
The next morning we made time to stop off at the farm and spend time with Tyler, Kim, and of course
Welcome Tai
Mom, Dad, and Grandma are very relieved and proud! little Bennett Maurice. The next day we stopped in to North Battleford to see Maurice's folks again and check on Rose Marie's progress to date. Another stop in Langham at Linda's Mom and Dad's for supper and then back to Saskatoon.
We spent the next week or so visiting little Tai and getting the new parents settled in at home. We visited with friends and family that we hadn't seen in a while. First thing we knew, Christmas was upon us, and we followed all of the traditions we have established. First, Gracie's birthday on Dec. 22nd in Marshall. In the morning on the 23rd we opened presents with Gracie, Sawyer and Easton. On the 24th we had snacks with Linda's children and partners. Marc, Holly, Ally-Anna and Saydi joined us on Christmas Eve for church/mass. Saydi and Ally-Anna took part in the service dressed like shepherds. Then we headed off to the Blanchette Reveillon at Colette and Luc's. This lasted until the wee hours of Christmas morning.
Christmas morning we sent off our company. Then we had Christmas dinner with all of Linda's family at her parents home in Langham. This has always been a time honored
Visiting Great Grandma and Grandpa
Now 94 and 87 years old, we stop and visit Grandma and Grandpa Blanchette every chance we get tradition with most family members in attendance. What a fun time and so nice to see all those family members that we have a difficult time connecting with.
In the afternoon we headed north to Pam and Ken's for Maurice's immediate family supper gathering. We spent the night on the farm with Tyler, Kim and Bennett. It was back to Saskatoon late Boxing Day. Gracie arrived in Saskatoon with her brothers and Mom for a date with grandpa on the 27th, and spend time with grandparents before their return to Mexico.
On the 29th of December, Linda's parents, Alec and Doris, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary by hosting all their family and friends for supper and entertainment at the local hall in Langham. What a fantastic celebration! Over 160 people gathered to honor their achievement and create a memorable evening for them.
Linda was able to get a day of snowboarding in at the local ski hill with Byron and Colette.
New Years Eve was spent with Maurice's family at Gisele's, and Jan 1st with Linda's family in Langham once again.
We spent the next week getting our affairs in order. Linda joined Search Associates,
great grandpa Blanchette and grandpa Maurice
First time for "snakes and ladders". Seems that it is always Sawyer's turn. a recruiting firm for teachers looking for employment, as she is investigating possible jobs next year in some other part of the world. It was then time to say goodby to our family, friends, our neighbour Lulabel, and our home sitter Marty and return to Mexico on January 11th.
We were very pleased to have been able to spend 6 weeks back with our families and friends. We enjoyed the record breaking weather Saskatchewan had and figured it was time to leave before the REAL winter hit. We enjoyed very comfortable flights back to DF.
Terri, our new room mate, was home to welcome us warmly. It was great to see our landlady, Rosa and her mother Felicia as well.
Being in Mexico City for only a few days, we were fortunate to be able to gather for taco el pastor with our good friends. We will be off for Central America on the 16th of January.
