A knock at the door and think I hear, "Housekeeping." A slight pause gives me some hope that perhaps I was dreaming, dreaming as a beautiful girl, clad only in a bikini and preparing breakfast while I sip my tea, the tropical breezes drift through the thatched bungalow. With a single finger, she beckons me toward her as........."Housekeeping!" It's
is coming from the door. Yes, I'm awake. The girl is gone and the steward is waiting for us to leave for breakfast so he can clean the room. What time is it?
Last night I noted a one hour time change listed in the ship's "When & Where" daily program and I promptly moved my watch back one hour. I would think that would be true with the ship moving closer to San Diego each day. Well, apparently it moved forward so instead of 7am, it's now 9am and the ship has been docked for over an hour. It's not a problem for us as we have made no formal plans for this port but we need to get breakfast soon. They close up at 10:30. That's where we go.
What about Puerto Chiapas? I had reserved an excursion
for the day long before we left on vacation but only one space was available, not two so I cancelled. Karen preferred to have a "Day of Relaxation" so I left it that way. They do have a building sitting right on the port pier that has some shops offering local wares for sale. We can just go there and call it good.
Right now Karen wants to go swimming. That's Ok as I'll just sit up by the pool and write my journal. Oh no. Now she wants me to go swimming too. It's true that most passengers are out on excursions and the ship is sparsely populated for the next few hours. Maybe this would be a good time after all. I take my computer stuff with me along with my swim trunks. Let's get this swimming thing out of the way first. Karen's already in the pool making friends. Finally I join her and it is refreshing and I hang out for about half an hour. Now it's past lunch and we can't miss that. The burgers are really good up at the pool. We make a quick trip off the ship to the market located
right on the pier and Karen found a jade pendant based on her birthday according to the Mayan calendar. Her sign in Mayan is the bat. After that, we return to the room for showers and I find a few minutes to work on the blog.
After showering, we decided to go to the dining room for dinner even though it's close to 6pm. We're seated at a table for 8 with three couples from Canada. We had a great time and we stay until 8pm. Now it's down to the BB King Show where we stay until 10:30pm, watching two sets. The group on this ship repeats many of their songs from night to night and their stage presence is not that of the group on the Nieuw Amsterdam but they're the best music on this ship other than piano or a string ensemble.
No time change tonight. Tomorrow I must catch up on writing and preparing the blog. I know. I keep saying that.
