Just out of San Cristobal, we were not expecting pines like this here. Not a speck of vegetation grew under the trees.

We had use of a fridge, so we were able to buy fruit for breakfast. It also kept our beer cold for nighttime card playing.

196 k's, over 4 and a half hours of intense driving. We went from over 7500 feet above sea level to 500 feet. Switchbacks, 214 topes and 28 washouts make for a long drive!

On the side of the road we see the fruit and can't help buying some. We had our first taste of sugar cane.

In Palenque, it is hot! We were lucky to find an affordable hotel with a pool, and rooms only a few steps away.

We enjoyed our stay here after freezing in San Cristobal, what a change a few hours of driving makes. What a beautiful setting to start our day.

The ruins date from 100 BC to 700 AD. Then it was abandoned and run over by the jungle.

The uncovered area covers 1 sq mi, but it is estimated that less than 10% of the total area of the city is uncovered. At one time there were over 10 000 buildings.

Temperature averages 26 degrees and because they receive over 85 inches of rain a year, it was hot and muggy. We have had enough info and are ready to leave the site.

Nice and cool here compared to the heat of Palenque.

Over 50 different falls here, we only had time to hike a bit and enjoy the view before heading for San Cristobal.

The colour of the water is phenomenal. Many people swim in the natural pools.

On the highway between Tuxtla and Huatulco, there were hundreds of these at a place called Los Vientos, The Winds.

Now home to Secrets Resort, there is enough beach for all to enjoy.

We attended a Blues Band Charity Dance. David Rotundo, from Toronto and his 4 international back-up buddies played for over 300 people.

We joined Fran and JoAnne for an early morning yoga workout. Maurice's first time.

After Yoga, some of us gathered for coffee in the park. Gorgeous setting!
