Mike and Baja Steve
Mike and his new friend he met in Cd. Constitucion The last two nights have been very windy! So much so that the RV actually is “jiggling”!!! We got very little sleep on Tuesday night but last night the wind did not really pick up until early in the morning. We got up to take a look and the water was up to and past the little palapa! We thought we might better move the truck but it appeared that the tide was receding a bit! The wind is northerly and the air is pleasant.
We have met some more really nice folk from Canada. Like us, they have stories to tell. One of the couple is in a smaller motor home and as they were on their way south here in the Baja, they passed a caravan. One of the Rvs in the caravan swiped the motor home knocking off the mirror and taking out the driver’s side window! I cannot even imagine how scary that was! AND--the RV that hit him did NOT even stop! Of course, it was quite a fiasco getting the window fixed. When they were to meet w/ the insurance rep here in Baja, he never even showed up! Why does this not surprise
Mission Church of La Senora Pilar in Todos Santos
Mike and his new friend he met in Cd. Constitucion me? He did show up the next day! In the meantime, while the side was covered up in plastic, paper and tape, they were all a little on edge. There was a couple and their sister-in-law in the party of the window disaster. The sister-in-law was sleeping up in front above the cab and was having a nightmare that someone was breaking in, so in her slumber she takes a fall from the bunk and bruised her leg! Lucky she did not break anything! Everyone has stories. But the thing is, these things do not seem to stop them.
Yesterday, the couple traveling w/ the above mentioned pulled his RV into the soft sand and got stuck. They tried and tried and there were a lot of gringos trying to help and give advice. Yes, Mike was one of those helpful gringos. Meanwhile the girls wandered away so as to not “get in trouble” by putting in their two cents worth!! Clearly this RV was really stuck. Within minutes one of the locals called another local and here comes a truck with a huge rope and pulled the RV out--$10!!! Best $10 that guy ever spent!
We spent
the rest of the afternoon talking and laughing about the many experiences we have had. All agreed that in spite of it all, that we would all do it again!
Another Canadian told how he just kept handing cash to policemen as he went!! He didn’t speak Spanish so he assumed that is what the police wanted! He also wanted to get an oil change and the mechanic told him it would be $300! We all got a kick out of that one. This couple also traveled all the way from Canada without a generator OR solar panels (very big w/ Rvs now--Mike wants to look into them! HELP!) and dry camped almost all of the way. Actually, dry camping is about the only option for much of the Baja.
This is our last day here and we will move on to Barilles, just a bit north of Cabo and will try to find a place to stay put for a few weeks. We will take a day trip or two to Cabo because we hear that it is just super congested and that there is a lot of theft there. Again, this does NOT surprise me.
Altar in the Church in Todos Santos
Mike and his new friend he met in Cd. Constitucion There is theft everywhere not just in Mexico!
Sitting on the beach and getting sandblasted (literally) was a bit unpleasant, so we decided to head over to Todos Santos which is about 45 miles from here on the Pacific coast. The road over is, of course, very narrow and we think it will be challenging with the trailer in tow! Todos Santos is known as the Baja’s art colony. Lots of gringos come here to visit the art galleries, shops and restaurants. The little town is just south of the Tropic of Cancer. It is a very toursity town with all the usual ware!
I had forgotten to post a photo of Mike and Baja Steve. Enjoy

Funny!
Kath, I can count on you to give me my daily dose of laughing! Mike is something else. I was very nervous reading about the adventures of the Canadians. I know I would not make it on a trip like you are doing!!!! Beautiful church. Love, Sue
