Gaspe, QC
Another early day and another tender port awaited me this morning as the Lumineers woke me up at 6:37am.
I had my morning apple and then booked it upstairs to see what awaited us for the day. As I opened the weather door (that’s what I call the door that leads from the crew area to the outside world) it was a stunning day outside! The skies were clear, no wind and it was a decent temperature.
I met everybody in the office and headed to the theatre at 7:15am with AJ and Nemo. Jeremy was on the pier today as he needed a low stress day to recharge a little bit and Dana was at the gangway.
I was planning on going on a tour this morning halfway through dispatch so I had to lug my 30 pound backpack to the theatre so I was ready to go. I was going on the walk through Forillion national park tour and Natalie and Her Ma were going on the hiking tour so I figured we would be on the same bus and I may be able to jump on the
hiking tour once we got to the park.
I gave the microphone to AJ and followed the group to the gangway were I wished Dana good luck with AJ and Nemo alone in the theatre and hopped on the tender. Everybody was in a great mood because of the weather as it was the perfect day for a walk or a hike.
We got to the dock and hopped on the school bus that would take us to the park. It was about a 45-minute driver and along the way we saw some amazing colours as the leaves have turned and the red’s and orange’s were brilliant.
We got to the park and sure enough they let everybody know that if they wanted to go on the 6km hike instead of the 2km walk they were welcome to do so.
We set off up the hill and when we got to the first photo stop we could all tell that we were in for a fabulous day as the views got better and better the higher we got.
At the top there was a 50-foot observation tower that we got to spend about 15 minutes
at and the views were some of the best I have ever seen, you could see forever in every direction! We snapped a bunch of pictures and then headed back down the hill at our own pace.
We got back on the bus and had a nice quiet ride back to town as we got a few more pictures of the colours along the way.
When we got back into Gaspe, Natalie, her Mum and I hopped off the bus so we could grab a quick bite to eat before getting back onboard. On the way back we grabbed a coffee and then hoofed it back to the tender. We saw an ambulance scream by and we knew tat is was probably for a guest.
There was a huge line when we got to the pier and we figured it was because of the medical emergency, and it was but it turned out it was for a crew member that had just signed on a few days ago. He is a Canadian guy and they brought him out on a stretcher but he was telling people he didn’t want to go home and we couldn’t figure out
what was going on, hopefully we can figure out what happened tomorrow.
I had a couple of hours to relax before heading to the desk at 6pm for a couple of hours.
I headed upstairs a little bit early as I thought there might be a really nice sunset and I was right. As we sailed out of the channel the sun was going down and there was a gorgeous rainbow on the horizon that made for some good picture taking.
When I got to the desk Dana asked if I could stand in for her at the Latitudes cocktail party tonight as she had a bunch of stuff to finish, I said sure as I wanted to go to one and see what all the fuss was about.
I helped AJ and Nemo for an hour with some disembarkation stuff and then headed home to put on some nice clothes for the party. Natalie is the host of the party as she is the cruise consultant and the party is for all the loyal NCL guests that have cruised multiple times.
I headed to the spinnaker lounge at 7pm and greeted all the guests
as they entered the lounge. There were about 250 people that made there way into the lounge and I stood with the other officers and greeted them as they came in. I hung around for about 30 minutes chatting with some guests about how their cruise was going and observed the goings on.
After that I headed back to the desk for an hour to finish what I was doing before I left and then when Natalie was done with the party I headed to her office to help her with paperwork for next week. It took us until 11:30pm to finish so we had a late dinner in the blue lagoon.
I had to skip the gym tonight partly because I was a little tired from the hike and because I didn’t have any extra time tonight.
