After six months of planning, the time is almost here. We
will begin our cross-Canada tour on July 29, making stops in every one of our
wonderful and diverse provinces, and return home to Nanaimo, BC on October 11,
2015.

What spurred this trip? Many things – love of adventure and
travel, hoping for a better understanding of the world around us, learning from and
laughing with the people we meet, the excitement of finally seeing this
incredible, vast country from end to end, a wedding, a family reunion, seeing
friends and family. But what got the fire really burning was the fact that Tim
and I have lost four very important people in our lives over the last five
years. It hit us profoundly that life is short and we need to live now, enjoy
now, travel now.

So we got an old-fashioned paper map of Canada, turned on
our computer, and started designing our 2015 Tofino to Twillingate Tour. Oh
Canada! Where should we go? What should we see?

Our trip will cover almost 19,000 kilometres of driving, ferry
rides on both ends of the country, and 75 days of travel. We will see
mountains, prairies, rivers, lakes and oceans. We will walk through the lobby
of Union Station in Winnipeg, hear the thunder of Niagara Falls, and see the archaeological
remains of a Viking encampment at L’anse Aux Meadows. We will parlez in Quebec
City, experience the highest tides in the world at the Bay of Fundy, and visit
the Al Capone tunnels in Moose Jaw. And that’s just the beginning! Who said
Canada is boring?

But what we are looking forward to experiencing most of all
are the people – relatives, friends, and friends we haven’t met yet. We get to
visit people that we love and what gets better than that? And think of all the people
we will meet along the way - people with different backgrounds, growing up in a
region or province unlike our own, who may speak a different language than us,
and who have so much to teach us. And yet, what unites us is our love for
Canada, this great big, goofy, welcoming, polite, warmhearted country full of
opportunities, beauty and goodness. And we get to see it all!

How we wish we could take you all with us. Please join us on
our journey through this blog, if you wish. We would be privileged to share our
experiences with you. I will post updates as often as I can.

Wish us luck!

Eileen & Tim
