Three Sisters
Where I was headed, taken from our front door. Low cloud hangs over the mountains today, there are no signs of it blowing off. This week, I think, marks the end of those lazy summer days of 30 degrees. Lunchtime and we are not above 10 degrees. Fall - as we locals call it here - has set in. This is what we came for, so I'm not about to whine about the cold.
After our trip to the west coast, I was hankering to get back to serious hiking. Just lucky I was, as Ian was preparing a voyage of pain over the labor day long weekend. A Hike to the Three Sisters, one of the largest peaks that surround Fernie was on the menu.
It was a stunning trip, with loads of variety. Thick forests, gushing waterfalls, the Bisaro Cave, complete with stalagmites and stalactites, Alpine meadows, Mountain Goats, Grizzly Bears (too far away for useful photos 😞), and slippery scree slopes.
According to my new
toy, we reached an elevation of 2793m in just over 5 hours. We were all pretty wasted as we crawled out of Dave's car at the end. A hot shower and a cold beer was on the top of
Three Sisters ascent
Spectacular - but scary - Vistas my mind. In total the hike was 21km. Not a bad day when you take into account the ascent.
I got a good dose of vertigo on the trip, hopefully these doses are helping me prepare for my future goal of
Fisher Peak.
