Anne's father, aunts, and many relatives were survivors of the Armenian genocide. She had an aunt that was 8 years old, and she was forced out Ovajic along with her parents, brothers, sisters, and cousins. Her aunt was very lucky because she was sold to an Arab family to keep her safe. The aunt's sister attacked one of the Turkish soldiers and suffered a huge consequence. The Turkish soldiers got a hold of the sister and cut her eyes off in front of her family. The family was not allowed to help the sister. They were forced to keep marching and most of them died on the long march. Her aunt's brother, Anne's father, was drafted into the Turkish Navy. He spent most of his life traveling from village to village trying to find his sister that was sold to the Arab family. On the very last village he traveled to he found his sister. They left together to the United States.
