03 October 2012 A walking day which started with the campsite bus grinding up the hill out of Oludeniz to take us to Kayakoy.
Kayakoy is a ghost town deserted in 1923 following the Turkish War of Independence when its Greek Christian population were transported to Greece. It was also badly damaged in a 1957 earthquake. We wandered around the ruined dwellings, school and churches and then followed the old cobbled streets to a small deserted chapel on top of a small hill.
There were many small restaurants in the area and for lunch we had a Turkish breakfast which consisted of ample quantities of tomato, peppers, cucumber, olives, cheese, honey, jam and butter all topped off by a fried egg which was served in the pan it had been cooked in.
In the afternoon we spent three and a half hours walking back to Oludeniz along the rocky coastal path with views of the islands we had sailed around the previous day.
