St Simeon's monastery
Me in the ruins of the church - view towards Turkey We travelled out to St Simeon's monastery in the morning, site of the Biblical character famous for sitting on a pillar for lengthy periods of time. The pillar was still there, albeit somewhat truncated, along with some great views across a valley to Turkey.
We then returned to Aleppo and went straight to the citadel where our tour leader gave us a guided tour. Apparently it had never been conquered and it was quite easy to see why from the edifice and remaining/restored defences.
We had lunch (amazingly it was only lunchtime by this point) at the same cafe we'd stopped at the day before and the tour leader then took me in a taxi to an office where they allowed me to phone the bank, but got put in a queue which I could not afford...
After resting for the afternoon we went out to a supposed Guiness Record winning restaurant around the corner. I didn't go for any of the dips and saved myself for the grilled chicken I ordered. A wise decision...
