I left to Iraq today from ATL to Shannon, Ireland then lastly Kuwait. At Kuwait I took a Convoy up to an US air base to fly up to Balad, Iraq.

Morning, June 14th

I'm now in Shannon, Ireland for a short lay over. It is weird because when we got off the plane everyone here clapped. We were all in uniform and they apparently love us, the U.S., for what we are doing for the middle east. The lay over is suppose to be just for a hour. That sucks. I'm going to try to buy something but I don't have any Euros, we'll see how that goes.

The flight here took seven hours from ATL. It sucked they packed us in like cattle. I didn't get a wink of sleep. I don't think I'm going to get any from here to Kuwait either. I going to take some pictures but they shouldn't be too exciting because I am only in the air port and can't leave.. Well until next time.

Night, June 14th

It took nine hours to get to Kuwait. It is hot as hell. We arived at 7:00pm or 8:00 local

time and it was still 110 or 115 degrees. The sun was mostly down also. Well from Kuwait international we got an armored escort to an major US base north of the air port. Once there I checked in as required and got assigned a flight at 0430 in the morning. Up until now I think I may have gotten 2 or three hours of sleep in about two and a half days.

June 15

The 4:30am was pushed back several times. As I waited I tried to sleep on the benches in the terminal. At around 11:00am I was awakened to be told that the flight was leaving. Me and several other soldiers took a bus to the air craft which was a C-130. It took about two hours to get to Balad and the landing was the worst I've ever had. Because of the danger of being shot down while landing the pilot makes a very steep landing to avoid being too close to the ground over unfriendly land for too long. As soon as we land and exit the air craft it was hot as hell. I felt as if i counldn't breath. I was
