Nowruz marks the first day of
spring or
Equinox as and the beginning of the year in the
Persian calendar. It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical
Northward equinox, which usually occurs on March 21 or the previous/following day depending on where it is observed. in Iran we have 2 weeks holiday for Nowruz and during this time, in every house,shop, parks, street and etc, you can see the seven 'S's table (Sofreh-e-Haft-Sin). The haft seen table includes seven items all starting with the letter
sīn (س) in the
Perso-Arabic alphabet.
The
Haft Seen items are:
Sabzeh - (
Persian: سبزه)-
wheat,
barley,
mung bean or
lentil sproutsgrowing in a dish - symbolizing rebirth
Samanu - (
Persian: سمنو)-
sweet pudding made from
wheat germ - symbolizing
affluenceSenjed - (
Persian: سنجد)-dried
oleaster Wild Olive fruit - symbolizing
loveSir - (
Persian: سیر)-
garlic - symbolizing
medicineSib - (
Persian: سیب)-
apples - symbolizing
beauty and
healthSomāq - (
Persian: سماق)
sumac fruit - symbolizing

patience This year, we went to Isfahan, Shiraz and Yazd in this Nowruz holiday and I have photographed some of Haft-Sintables which I saw during Nowruz 1393! (21 March 2014)
