<em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Day 167 Sunday 3rd July 2016 – Pafos to Nicosia Up at a decent time to catch our 9.30am bus to Nicosia, had a quick breakfast and a very easy pack now we have sent a lot stuff home. Got down to reception at 8.30am to find the doors closed and no sign of anyone even though the opening time is 7.00am – OH NO! We rang the bell a few times, then I... Read Full Entry

The heart of Cyprus
This is an area I know nothing about, so thanks for the background/historical details. Love the sound of the big platters with free dessert and a shot of liquor! And how funny that they sent Alexander Downer over there - I can just imagine the supercilious tone he would have taken with them :)

What a Downer
Yea, I couldn't believe that they sent the twit over to help them make peace. I think it was about 18 months later I read a large article about how it was all going and it was just funny how both sides hated him, mainly because he wouldn't even turn up for the meetings. In the end through his absence the sides started talking so I guess you could say "Mission Accomplished".

Comlementary desert and drink--Yes!
So interesting and sad that the inland food, people, sites were so much better inland than on the coast where there were probably more tourists (to escape the 37C heat). Oh well, great that you got to visit both! But what is with the laundry prices--hard to believe they'd have any customers! I love these places where churches and mosques morph into one another over time. There was one in Toledo, Spain, that had been a synagogue, then a mosque, then a church and now a museum. The world is turning atheist!

Airing our dirty laundry
We hate to sound like whinging travellers, and keep banging on about the cost of laundry, but when it is so expensive we feel we need to alert others. Today we have got back from the town of Famagusta and saw more morphing churches that were incredible.

Traveling to Nicosia
It sounds like the bus drivers are in control and not to be messed with. Yikes. The joys of laundry on the road. I needed the history lesson so thanks. You do love those border crossings. Wish you had more time in Nicosia and less time in the coastal towns. We like the photos from the museum.

still going potty
Just wished all border crossings were as easy as this one. the museum was great except for all that broken pottery.

Stay on the Greek side for now!
Hey xx, I like Nicosia also, nice pic's and the food looks great. Love real Mediterranean food. Lots going on in turkey at the moment, hey....crazy world we live in! cant believe I will be seeing you both soon :))). I'm getting very excited. I'm on the deck and am surrounded by white cockatoo's, finally they have become my friends!! Take care, stay safe!

Sliding past Turkey to get to Slovenia
We had planned on travelling back through Turkey and even wrote up a rough plan but in the end we deemed it not worth the risk. Glad to hear you have you have new feathered friends just watch out that they don't start eating your home. We have finally been able to map out the trip all the way to meeting you, and I am sure the time is going to fly.
