I love Bahrain. I must admit this. All military thought aside, this is a great country. It has all the makings of a great country. First, the people. The Bahraini people are awesome! So happy! You can tell the Bahraini from the Saudi's just by look. The Bahraini are generally fat and almost always smiling! Bahraini love people. They have hardly ever met someone who wasn’t their friend. When they meet you, or you meet many of them, they shake hands with everyone in the group. The Bahraini love 'Genuine' people, because they are genuine people. It is no wonder they get along well with Westerners. They generally get along well with everyone. Also, they appreciate the finer things in life: good food, good company, and good women. The food. Had a few days in Bahrain on the way home...hot, bright and at least the photos were sharp again in the sunshine. It's certainly livlier than Abu Dhabi! Kate and I had to wear chaddors and scarves to visit the biggest mosque and our hotel was the ony place to get a drink (alcohol, anyway) in the area - and I was desperate for a drink after the antibiotic and kill Bill the amoeba pills I'd had to take - generally, it was friendly and pleasant - if a bit formal and slightly sterile... All the area we stayed in at the top of the island is built on reclaimed land, so my little dream of swimming in the 'sea' was ammended to swimming in the lagoon and we were apparently lucky to have that - ... read more
