on the bridge
and couldn't believe the buttercups in the field Alex had a day off work yesterday, so after I'd pushed Mum along the canal and back, we set off on a jaunt to the very start of the Montgomery canal, where it joins the Llangollen canal. I knew there are a series of locks there that become a staircase - only 4, but quite impressive. Mind you, if you've seen the 23 locks at Devizes you might not be that impressed. It was lovely there, but I didn't take the camera and the phone was running low on battery so the photos look gloomy. In case you're interested the Montgomery canal was built mostly to get lime into Wales (for improving the fields) and wool and flannel out. It is 35 miles long, stretching from Lower Frankton near Ellesmere to Newtown. These days you cant get a boat all the way along: some bits have no water, and in some places they've built new roads on top of it without the use of a bridge. But all along there is evidence of a very busy past, despite the leisurely look of it now. Only a few pics.
