today we were on the border between England and Wales, so I daresay we've been in a bit of each. There is a huge ring of 14 lime kilns with an enormous chimney near here, and we thought we'd go for a walk in that direction and have a look. The kilns are in a ring, and as they emptied the first one, they filled the last, so work went on day and night. Must have been fiery.

Also, there are inclined planes from the stone quarry to the kilns, and of course the canal to bring coal and take away the lime. It must have been very busy here once upon a time.
