with our hats on
at The William Wallace Monday was St Patrick's Day, and a bunch of us decided to do a pub crawl around town to celebrate.
My one class on Monday ended up being cancelled- either because the man is a genius, or he really is going to Africa to tag along on a "bug research project" or something like that.
Anyways, Colleen, Harriet, Katie, Kathy, Nick, and I headed down to The Wallace around 5:30. In my scramble to get ready to go on time, I slipped right outside my door on the pavement- but I caught myself before I went all the way down (let's just count that as 1).
We got to The Wallace, and I guess people start a lot earlier than 5:30 here because everyone was drunk- maybe even the bartender 😊 As the only girls under the age of 50 (other than that it was the bartender and one of the wives of the drunk guys coming to collect him (and his tab) for dinner), we stuck out like a sore thumb, but everyone was pretty funny about it. The bartender gave us Guinness hats, and we were scolded whenever we didn't have them on. They all poked
fun at Nick a little bit asking why he had all of these women with him.
We went and played pool- Harriet, Katie, and I against Nick, Kathy, and Colleen, and even though we were about to win, they of course pulled through at the last minute 😊
After The Wallace we went into town to grab some dinner- we ate at Longhorns which is the closest equivalent to a Texas barbeque place that I've found over here- I was pretty surprised when I found it! And it even has really good food too! After dinner we went and had fried Mars bars and Snickers. It was really good!
A little later we met up with some other people that are University of Stirling students- Phil, some other dude, and Carmen, and then we went to No. 2 Baker Street, O'neills (which was PACKED, but the guy playing music played Sweet Home Alabama which was awesome), Nicky Tam's, one other place I forget the name of, and City Walls. At Nicky Tams we ran into the owner of The William Wallace pub, which let's be honest- she's like royalty to Nick and I since we're in there
all the time. It could have been the Queen of England 😊 And one of our favorite bartenders and another guy that I've met there a couple times were hanging out with her too. Anyways, it was a pretty comprehensive run through of the pubs in Stirling. And while in town, I slipped coming out of Nicky Tam's and once as we were walking to City Walls (but caught myself both times), so we'll count up to 3.
We decided to finish the night by going to Beat. On the walk there, Nick tried to nunchuck me, and well, any revenge that might have been sought was quickly given up as I slipped again, and fell all the way down, so that makes 4. When we got to Beat, it was pretty dead- there were maybe 45 people there including bartenders, bouncers, the dj, etc. But that just means, all the more space to dance in 😊 We had a lot of fun (minus the male strippers that we go to school with). They closed about an hour early though because so few people were there, but I was definitely tired by that point.
So my inability to
walk correctly was caused by the new boots I bought the other day. I really like them, except for the fact that the bottoms of them are totally smooth. Just to confirm- I slipped once today too when I wore them. I guess I'll save them for any turf or carpet walking instead of pavement walking (seeing as I get out on turf so often) 😊
Anyways, I've got two papers due by the end of next week, and I'm trying to get a jump start on them- which means excessive amount of reading in the library which I haven't really gotten used to yet lol. You can check out books for classes for 24 hours and that's it- or there are the lovely 3 hour loan books too- exactly my style. So I've beaten the system and decided to just sit in the library while reading the book without checking it out because this really helps me to avoid late fees which have already reached £9 (it's £1 per hour that a book is late).
This weekend, I'm not too sure what I'm doing yet. I think I'll hold off on the London trip because I want
to get these papers done and finish making spring break plans. I was thinking Stonehenge day trip maybe? Or perhaps I'll go back into Edinburgh or Glasgow by myself. I guess we'll see 😊
