Blogging from the city of Perth (Scotland not WA):

Herewith an overview of the Shetland Islands - Orkney will be added tomorrow.

Shetland Islands

3 days

Arrived 7am Day 1.

Went into town, parked up at Knab Point, took dogs for a walk. Went to town for a walk around, visited some stores including handmade saleables, bookstore, hardware, etc. prices of property are low, and cars are very cheap compared to Western Australia. Saw a seal in the water and shags on a rock. Visited Clickimin Broch as night fell.

Day 2

Revisited Clickimin Broch during the day, let the dogs have a run around. It is architectural feat. combining accommodation and working space. Did shopping and visited other grounds. Visited bookstore, had lunch at a grill, which interestingly serves bacon burgers etc. but made of turkey! Largish population of non-bacon eaters in town. Had a delightful Indian / Nepalese takeaway for dinner. Very tasty.

Day 3

South of mainland

Saw Iron Age buildings, lighthouse being upgraded, beautiful west voe beach, saw porpoise off this beach, then the tombolo between the mainland and st ninian's - europe's best tombolo! Dogs had a whale of a time. It rained, of course, on the beach and the tombolo. Tombolo reminded me of the sand spit between Rockingham and Penguin Island.

Visited museum, only got to see about one third of it before they closed, but it was well set up, and then got onto the ferry for 6 hour ride from Lerwick to Kirkwall (Orkney mainland). Had a cabin for this trip, which was good. Watched a film about Dillinger starring Johnny Depp - good film, worth watching. Reasonably historically accurate as far as I can recall from reading about him in the past.
