Ok so we arrived in Edinburgh, SCotland.. It had to be the scariest flight ever!! well first off we had to wake up at 4am to catch a bus to our ryan air flight. The bus ride was another hour and a half and then the time to load our baggage up on to our flight. I knew we had a prblem with having overage on baggage weight at the airport.. how abou the school had to front about 1500$ in overage charges...eeeeeeek... o well so we finally got on the flight and all was well until we hit such bad turbulence crossing over to Scotland!!! jen and i seriously cried our eyes out as everyone was laughing at us, but it wasnt funny!!! it was terrible. an irish boy sittin next to us was asking if we were ok... but finally, we arrived in SCotland and came to find out we had to switch the pound.. which means our u.s. dollar is worht pretty much 50cents... yippeee
we arrived and as we arrived we had to lug our baggage to the top of this enormous hill.. i thought i was about to fall backwards. We finally reached the top
yesss we were in tears...
scariest flight of my life! and to my surprise our hostel was right across the street from Edinburgh castle, and welll directly on the Royal Mile. Our hostel is supposively an old mental institution, thank god we dont have to stay here for too long since we are leaving for our mcbackpackers trip in 2 days.. and surprise!!! ITS HALLOWEEN NIGHT!!! and were in one of the scariest and haunted places in the world! we got our tickets to a edinburgh ghost walk... this should be fun on halloween night... the town actually celebrates it for 5 days straight!!
After arriving in Edinburgh we passed out on the couches in the relaxing room at the hostel before our beds were ready...After settling in, we went on the walking ghost tour since it was Halloween night. They took us to the Edinburgh underground and narrow dark alley ways of the cobble stone streets and walkways. After all this, my poor nerves were shot.. We then had to go back to the hostel which like i said is a supposed old mental institution.. so i was scared shitless for the rest of the night. I woke up at 4am almost peeing my pant and finally woke
up bevvy to go pee with me so i wouldnt have to walk the creepy ass halls at night haha.. Tomorrow will be our first day on our backpacking trip for the next 5 days through all of scotland.
Ok! So today was our first official day of Macbackpackers.com. We were introduced to our tour guide for the next 5 days Neil. Not only is he extremely funny but he wears a kilt, with nothing under it!! and PLEASE DO NOT ask me how i found out. haha.. Anyways.. it was finally time to get out of that mental insitution and on to bigger and better things. MOst of us n the trip went however there were a select few that decided to stay back with professor sands and take their own whirlwind tour of scotland...
Day 1.. Neil, our tour guide, explained to us that he loves to travel the world, and he absoltely loves his job. His accent is so hard to understand sometimes because he talks to gosh darn fast! Also, how he actually traveled to Pennsylvania because he used to have a girlfriend there! He was telling us funny stories about the susquehanna river
and ski-do'in.. He didnt think it was funny. lol.. But anyways...
Our first stop was a hike at "The Hermitige" which is in the town of Perth. it was beautiful and relaxing. After being crammed on the bus it was nice to stretch out our legs. Here we took some pictures of the roaring water and the group, and then made our way back to the bus...It is fascinating how green and moist it is here. It actually makes everything look enchanted.
After the hike we made our way to the smallest whiskey distillery in scotland.. and beleive me when i say small, it was small! but we got a free shot of whiskey before we evan stopped for lunch! haha guess thats how the scots do it... After a breif over view on how they make the whiskey we stopped at the store to buy some lunch and bring it back on the bus. We made our way thru the mountains, and although we were on the bus most of the time today, i cant even describe in words the scenery surrounding us.
Before it got dark, we stopped and drank hot chocolate (WITH WHISKEY!!!) in
a nearbby run-down castle. Although it was really cold.. we still had a blast and it is something i will never forget. The rest of the night was spent making our way up to Inverness for the next two nights, where we will be visitng loch ness.. andthe rest of inverness.
Right now I am at our hostel for the next 2 nights. Very clean and i have awesome roomates. ! Tomorrow is another jam packed day of activities...
here are some pics from when we arrived and our first day of mcbackpackers tour!.... enjoy!
