Well it's April 16 and it is my last day in Ireland I am flying over to Scotland later this afternoon. Ireland has been so much fun, I really do love it here, I definatly plan on coming back one day. The last few weeks here have gone by so quickly because we have been on the go almost everyday.
Last weekend started with the Marble Arch Caves on Saturday. They were really neat to go through, it's amazing how people used to dig through them with barely any light at all, I would imagine it would have been quite scary at times. There was a boat ride at the beginning which was quite neat as well. It's amazing to see and learn about the things that grow in the caves and how long they take to grow; some of the stalagtites took over 100 years to grow a millimeter! Sunday morning we were up early (6am early) and started off with an Easter Egg hunt, something I haven't done in years! Then it was off to Katie's Christening. Katie is so well behaved I can hardly believe it. She didn't cry or make a sound once during the
whole thing. Afterwards we all went to Chesters Lodge for lunch and drinks. It was a little bit chaotic with the whole family there at once. There are so many kids! But it was a lot of fun. That evening was Stuarts surprise family birthday party at Jim's house and it went really well as well. They was food, drinks, music and even a bit of line dancing with me and Carol! It was a blast!
Monday morning we headed up to the Giant's Causeway. It is so neat to see all the different rock formations. I definately see why it is one of the seven wonders of the world. We walked all the way down to the water and then up the hundred and sixty odd stairs back up to the top, where the view was amazing! The weather wasn't terribly great but it was well worth it to see it. After the Causeway we headed up the coast and stopped to have a picnic....the coldest picnic ever!! It was also the quickest picnic ever needless to say. Then we went to visit the smallest church in the country, and boy was it small. I think it was
something like 7ft by 5 ft. And the amazing thing is that it is actually still used, there was a marriage certificate in the from 1999 even! AFter the church we headed further up the coast to the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. Only me, Stef, Jean, Mervyn, Karn and David wwalked to it because the weather was becaoming a bit worse but it was good. The bridge it sturdy but still moves quite a bit when you're on it. We even convinced Stef to go over it. It's pretty high up and when the wind hits you, you have to grab hold but I thought it was fun! That evening we headed back to Stef's uncle Edwin's for a BBQ and me and Stef stayed overnight.
On Wednesday we visited Port Rush with Edwin. It's a small seaside town but it is so pretty. There are lots of amusements there and we went to the big one called Barry's. We only went on one ride, Freak Out, but it was really fun. Then we just played the 2pence machines (so addicting!). That evening was Stuart's 18th birthday party at a pub in Moira. There was so many people there, mostly just Stuart''s friends but it was a good night. Lots of drinks and dancing, I loved it!
On Friday evening we went to stay with John and Carol, who have Katie who's 9 weeks old. I was sick the previous day and that day so I didn't really do too much. On Saturday they took us to the Old Folk Museum where you walked around and saw how things were back in the old days. It was really neat to see how people lived. It's hard to believe that once upon a time people lived with nothing, no electricity, no phones, no showers. one house the farmer and his cows slept in the same room as the cows would keep it warm. Yuck!
Last night was my last night here so Eileen and Nicky and the kids came down to Jean and Mervyn's and we had a BBQ. The weather wasn't great but it was a lot of fun.
And so my month in Ireland is now over, I can't belive how fast it has gone. But I have had a lot of fun and it's time to move on for more adventures!
