Hooroo
Well, the first entry outside of OZ.

The Shane Summary:

We went to the airport, booked in, got on a plane. Arrived in Bangkok & stayed for 2 nights. Went to another airport, booked in & flew to London. Toured around England.

Had lots of help from family & friends to see us off from Melbourne, which was great. All went smoothly and Thai Airlines were great, made sure we boarded first so things were easier for Dot.

The few days in Bangkok were great fun. The Siam@Siam Hotel was excellent & being right in the middle of Bangkok made it easier to get around. Bangkok was great & a lot cleaner (air & streets) than we imagined. Then locals are among the most friendly & easy going people we’ve met. If Bangkok is indicative of the rest of Thailand, then it is a fairly prosperous country.

Flew into London on 16th July to bit more bearable weather but our accommodation booking stuffed up. The Clink Hostel had us booked in for the 17th, , which was the day after our arrival Managed to find an hotel for the night - the Carlton in Kings Cross

Making sure we went
- even though we had to share a couple of double beds!!!

Did all the tourist things for the 2 days in London. & packed loads in. Dot is amazed at the lack of scooters (electric type for gerries) we’ve seen or not seen (depending on your point of view).

Moved on to Wallingford last Friday, which is where we are at the moment. Caught up with Kerry (Christine’s cousin) Garry (Kerry’s husband) & Ella (their 6 yr old). Treated to a most magnificent roast by Kerry yesterday (Sunday) which has topped off a great first few days in the Old Dart!

Plenty of pints have been sampled by those of the party what does drink beer!! Tim’s making up for lost time in terms of broadening his ale appreciation!! The pubs over here are fantastic on the main, particularly the rural ones.

Today (Monday) was spent in Oxford and we were treated to a nice English summer’s day!! There were bloody tourists everywhere but still had a fantastic time. Went to a couple of 17th century pubs including the Turf Tavern which is where B ob Hawke set his world record for downing a yard

Thde one in the middle is going! so why are the other 2 so happy?
glass. It’s now treated as a shrine by Tim.

Staying at a great B&B in Shillingford (a little village outside Wallingford). Local concerns in the news are the number of knife assaults (including homicides) & the fact the rail stations are having stuff reduced & replaced by vending machines - sounds all too familiar doesn’t it.

Published a few photos for your enjoyment.

That’s enough for now. I’m going to bed.
