The interior of our Heathrow Holiday Inn
The interior of our Heathrow Holiday Inn We awoke quite early this morning but that’s okay, it gave me a chance to write yesterday’s blog. Which is exactly what I’m doing now as well. I did write this last night but this cottage has no wifi and when I thought it might save my musings, it just released them into black hole of unsaved documents.
Our breakfast this morning was included, but Holiday Inn is the budget version of Crowne Plaza - they even share the same building but the foyer has a divider down the middle. Nonetheless it was a lovely buffet, just missing sliced fresh fruit, nice pastries (they did have croissants and muffins, but I like a Danish), and maple syrup for the pancakes. The scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages were tasty!
When we had ourselves pack up we made the walk through the connecting tube back to Terminal 4, caught the connecting train back to Terminal 2 and the the lift up to the coach terminal. We found the coach to take us to Victoria Station coach terminal, weaving our way through the Chelsea and Pimlico areas we’ve explored in the past when finding the areas Tom’s family came from - we even
Terminal 4 and our connecting walkway
Terminal 4 and our connecting walkway drove up part of Ebury Street which was exciting,(well, exciting for me 🙂) and saw Hanover Square and Sloane Street. At Victoria Station we had to cross the road to Departures where we found our coach taking us to Norwich.
The Norwich coach took us through London, giving us views of the London Eye and some of our favourite buildings (the Shard, the Walkie-talkie, the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge - so exciting) before making our way into the countryside.
We had booked these journeys months ago, only considering going from A to B and not giving a thought to the views we might see.
We arrived in Norwich after 3pm, and walked down the road to the taxi stand where we were in line because of the school rush. He took us out of town to our car hire people, driving past one of the churches that many of my Allman ancestors were baptised or wed. Norwich was also where my 4greats grandfather was tried for stealing his tools of trade and responded, in modern day translation, “well, the world is wide and I am young so I’m out of here” which makes me
wonder if that was his intention all along. We also saw the church where his father, my 5greats grandfather was buried.
Our car wasn’t ready so we waited while it was cleaned. THEN we set off for Aylsham to find our nearest Tesco for some groceries for our cottage. By the time we finished it was dark, so we made our way down country lanes till we miraculously came to Moat Farm Cottage where we were met by our lovely owner. Tesco had our favourite McGuigan wine (slightly dearer) and our favourite whisky (much cheaper price). So I heated the pizza and opened the red. We’re a little tired!
