Hannover to London

Additional maps: Untitled

London
From Hannover we had a few fast train trips: to Frankfurt, then to Brussels and then on the Eurostar which goes under the English Channel. At times we were travelling more than 230 kms an hour.

London was a mixture of things. A lot of History. Mum and I went on a walking tour and we saw: Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park, the stables for the Horse Guards, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, St James Park, St James Palace, Green Park and squirrels and a lot of history about these places.

I saw platform 9 and 3/4 at Kings Cross / St Pancras Station, from the Harry Potter movie.

I went to see one movie, Despicable Me and three plays. Oliver and Sister Act were both musicals and we also saw the 39 Steps, a comedy based on a thriller and where 4 people act out more than a hundred roles. We also saw:
- A Soccer match, Charlton Vs Brighton Hoves. Although 2nd league there was lots of atmosphere
and drumming from the crowd.
- The National Gallery at Trafalgar square.
- An old friend of dad’s who lives in Cambridge. I had a great day there with Otto, her 18 year old
son, the dogs and more horse riding.
- London from the London Eye, a giant Ferris wheel. A bit like the one in Melbourne, except bigger
and this one is still standing and works. Great views of London and I was able to pick out most of
the historical sites I had been to on the walk with mum.

We went to Harrods, an unbelievably expensive shop and the shop assistants in the food sections wear fancy straw hats. Also another shop called Fortnam and Masons were the shop assistants wear coats with tails.

To get around we used the Tube (the Underground Railway), double decker busses and we walked a lot. One night I saw Keira Knightly going to the London Film Festival. Keira is an actress who was in Pirates of the Caribbean, Bend it like Beckham, Love Actually and other films.

It was nice to be able to understand the signs and language after the other countries I have been to.

From London we are going to Hong Kong for a day to rest and get our body clocks ready to adjust to Australia and ending a fantastic holiday. It will be nice to be home and also sad to end our holiday..
