Well this morning Tom started off at 5.30am with Martin for a bicycle ride. Overcast when they set out and raining halfway way. They came back soaked but happy big boys.
At 8.30am we headed off and paid for the scooter and then headed North. Went to Scarborough. A beach side town, with life guard and rescue boards cold water and very flat and calm waters ,quite large and full of summer time holiday makers. Had a walk around the town and the beachfront, bought some some walking shoes and socks each, and Gaye bought three thermal under shirts, then had afternoon tea, scones and jam in a little café overlooking the ocean. Very pretty. Took some photos.
Headed out about 5pm to the West and camped at a place called Allerston. The camp sites are very busy with the summer holidays, and very pet friendly - I think every 5th person has a dog camped with them.
Chatted to Megan on face book all well with her.
We are both going fine.

Up early, Tom did a load of washing. We headed off to Dalby Forest in the North
Scarborough
Looking back at the pier York Moors.
Did a mountain bike ride. We hired a mountain bike for Gaye and started off at 10am with what we thought was a 12 mile ride, to be back for lunch and maybe an afternoon ride. Well it didn’t finish up that way. We went in a different direction (Tom leading) and went, and went. In the end, Gaye was getting tired and hungry and it started to rain lightly. The rain got heavier and Tom asked another rider which was the quickest way back. There was an escape route and we took it. The rain got heavier and we got colder riding. Finally got back at 1.30pm., cold and hungry. Had some hot soup and changed our clothes. Tom as usual, spotted another rider who had Triathlon sticker on his car and invited him over for a chat and a coffee.
An hour later, we headed out to Thirsk. Stopped at an old abbey along the way. We’re going to have dinner in a little restaurant opposite it but the chef had just severely cut his finger so the restaurant was closed. At Thirsk we had dinner in a pub called the ‘Black Lion’ -very nice
Bike Ride 5.8.10
Gaye's backside view on the bike ride dinner. There were no caravan parks further along so we free camped. Had a pommy bath.

Went to Bishop Auckland looking for Daniel Warn (George’s nephew). On the way stopped in the town and bought some groceries. Had fun trying to find Daniel. Lady in the shop said it was behind the white house down the road . What she really meant was it was 4 houses down and behind a light coloured sandstone house. We had a coffee with him and picked up the mail for the insurance on the motorhome and chat to his mum and dad (Lorraine and Ken) in Sydney on Skype
Headed off towards Edinburgh. We stopped in the town of Jedburgh. . This is the town where Mary Queen of Scots stayed in 1566. There is also the abbey, and the Castle Jail. Tom took some photos of the Abbey. Dropped into the tourist info office to see what they had on Edinburgh. About 10kms further on we stopped at a caravan park for the night to have real shower and tidy up. It had a 9 hole golf course and a pub as well as permanent residence
in mobile homes, one was made up of two halves each was 40 x 8 foot

Drove to a ‘Park and Drive’ car park (had to ask directions as the Tom Tom could not locate)and got the bus into Edinburgh.
Went into information centre and then wandered along Princes Street and took some photos. 1. Sir Walter Scott monument 2. Sir Walter Scott monument with Adam Black (PM) in the foreground.
Went in to Edinburgh Castle. A long queue awaited us for buying tickets to get in. It was very interesting - the history and structure of the buildings and what had happened there from around 700AD.
Tom took some photos and had a tour guide all to himself, Neville which made for a very informative tour.
We purchased an Official Souvenir Guide book .
Had a wander around the city afterwards. The ‘Fringe’ was on - it’s a festival that runs for 3 weeks with theatre, orchestra concerts of many variety and street shows. It has just started and this week is the alternative type of theatre
etc happening. There were many buskers, theatre group performers doing their thing on the streets. It was very entertaining. We watched a group of 5 from Japan who performed a mime to music not sure where they were heading. We headed out of the city around 4.30pm.
Now free camping in a Park and Ride along with a Family from Italy. Got to practice some Italian. yeah.
On the bus back to the P&R we took some photos of ourselves in the double decker bus upstairs.
Back to the motorhome and to a shopping centre to buy some food to cook for dinner. Salmon fillets with soy and honey and Tom cooking while I update the diary and internet.Meal was delish according to Gaye

Off to Edinburgh this morning. We were too early for the museum so wandered around the streets for a while. We happened upon the faithful dog called Bobby of Greyfriars who hung around his masters’ grave for 16 years. Tom took some photos and we had a look around the cemetery.
Still walking around, we saw the birthplace of Harry Potter - the café where Miss Rowlands wrote
Jeddburgh Abbey 6.8.10
Just north of the Scotland border the novels. Tom took some photos.
Also purchased a soft toy Highland Piper to hang on the Xmas tree.
While walking we walked past a guy (young man wearing a beaning and shorts and A BODY - JUST ASK Gaye)
Off at 10am to see the National Museum of Scotland. The special exhibition was ‘Prized Pieces’ which is the display of ‘The Lewis Chessmen’. The chess pieces are made of walrus ivory, found in an underground chamber in the parish of Uig, Lewis in 1831. of Scandinavian in origin, late 12th century. Purchased a pencil with the metal piece of the chessman as a top, and also bought a postcard.
Then off to see the ‘Palace of Holyroodhouse’. This is where the queen comes to in summer as it is her official home in Edinburgh. She holds investitures in the Great Gallery for the distribution of honours and also holds summer garden parties for Scots from all walks of life are invited.
We also purchased the Official Souvenir Guide Book.
We toured the Palace, the old ruins of the Abbey and the gardens.
On the way back to the bus we came across some drummers
and bagpipe player. Took a movie shot with my camera. Very energetic and good. Hope the movie comes out OK.
Got the bus back to the Park and Drive depot and headed out towards Inverness and the Loch Ness. Tom too tired to drive all the way so pulled into a small beautiful campsite called ‘Inver Mill Farm Caravan Park’. Very picturesque and by the side of a small stream. Have decided to spend tomorrow here
Time for that glass of red. Tom cooked dinner, some leftovers with added veggies and I put on the clothes washing. Getting diary up to date, shower and off to bed.
