27 locks, 333 in total. From Castlefield Basin we briefly joined the Rochdale Canal, then turned right at Ducie Basin onto the Ashton and finally right again onto the Peak Forest Canal, heading southwards now on our return journey. ...instead of 2 ladders for climbing out, these had little hand and toe holds built into the brickwork.

.... were originally double locks but only one is used now.

Nearly 200 feet high. The mill has been demolished but this was bought by Tameside Council in 200 for £1.

Virtually all the mills in this area have been demolished - all that history has vanished.
