Night Out
We stopped in an Irish Pub and there was live music and people doing some Irish dancing! Hey everyone, sorry I am ultimately failing on keeping this updated! I am going to be home soon, so hopefully then I will be able to finish my blogs in a timely manner! I would like to keep them in sequential order so here continues the saga of my traveling, so let me take you back, way back…
One blustery weekend Madison (who is basically my weekend traveling buddy now) and I went up north to Manchester to see what the city had to offer. We took the train up on a Friday night so we could have 2 whole days there. When we arrived we went out for a couple of drinks and ended up in an Irish pub called O’Shays where there was live music and an older gentleman dancing! It was really neat, because then a younger girl who also knew how to do Irish dancing got up and asked him to dance with her. It was really fun to watch!
On Saturday we started by trying to find the Science and Industry Museum, but failed. I honestly think it doesn’t exist, because we scoured the city for it with no luck. While on this fateful
China Town - Manchester
China Town was all decorated for the Chinese New Year trek we did happen upon Manchester’s China Town, the old library and government buildings, and the BBC station. I am in love with the BBC so I had to stop and have my picture taken with the sign, and we seriously debated going inside, but were distracted by signs advertising the Mary Poppins Musical. Unfortunately they were all sold out of tickets for the days we were in town, so we weren’t able to go. We did make it to the Manchester Art Gallery and spent quite a bit of time there. Madison really liked the exhibits and so we just wandered through looking at everything. Some of the exhibits were interactive, so that was pretty neat. Next we walked up to Exchange square where there used to be a market to exchange goods, but now is a shopping center. They have a giant Ferris wheel kind of like the London Eye there and the Manchester Cathedral is also located very near. We went to the Hard Rock for lunch as my trip tradition goes then spend the evening in the movie theater of the Printworks, a warehouse converted into a theater and restaurants. We then had an epic search
for Pizza Hut, because we both wanted pizza. It never fails, when you don’t need a Pizza Hut there is one on every corner and when you want it there are none to be found!! We walked all over for about 45min. before finally spotting one! One quick note about English Pizza Huts, they are quite fancy. They even have wine glasses on the tables. The one we stopped at had a sign about making reservations for Valentine’s Day. Very upscale from what we were used to at home.
On Sunday in Manchester we went to the Manchester United Stadium in Oldam. We took the tram out to the suburb and walked to the Old Trafford Stadium just a couple of blocks away from the tram stop. Madison’s family supports Manchester United and she wanted to go do the tour of the stadium and go to the museum to take pictures for them. I really like stadium tours, so I was up for it. On our tour we were able to see the locker rooms, the player’s lounge, the stands and walk along the field. It was really neat! I personally don’t support any football teams, so it was
just a cool experience to be able to walk where the players do for every game. We both took turns taking pictures lounging on the sofa in the lounge, in the player’s seats stadium side, and running down the entry tunnel. When we got back to Manchester we randomly ran into a parade in the China Town because apparently it was Chinese New Year! The parade was pretty cool; there were dancers, music, and the traditional dragon. The last thing we did was go back to the Cathedral because when we were there before there was a service, so we couldn’t go in. The Cathedral, like all the others I have seen, was beautiful. It had stained glass windows, and a lot of gothic sculpture.
That afternoon we took the train back to Leicester so we could be back for school on Monday.
