Manchester city
The one gorgeous sunset we got to see. But it was absolutely freezing! It's been another long weekend and of course we had to make the most of it, so we headed to Manchester City!
We arrive Friday night after a long train ride, changing three times, and because of a delay on one train we missed the next one and ended up being 40mins late. It's all apart of the adventure and joys of public transport. Of course being the long weekend the weather was crap! Lots of rain, wind.... Typical English weather!
Our hotel was lovely, straight across the road from the Manchester football stadium and the first thing I noticed was how strong the accents were, just like Coronation street! Saturday the exploring begun after getting directions from the reception staff we made our way to the Tram station, only to find that we had no clue on what side of the station we needed to be on to get into town. Luckily some lovely stranger pointed us in the right direction. The one good thing about getting lost is that we found five nice restaurants near the Tram station which was only a 5-10 min walk away from our hotel. (So that was our plan for dinner)
SMILE!
Before we were going out to dinner. We got off the Tram at Piccadilly Gardens which seemed to be in the centre of town. It was a large patch of grass (more than what I'd call gardens) with a small market around the edge, some statues and a large water fountain. There looked to be a fountain like you see on the movies where the water sprouts up at different places but unfortunately it wasn't on at the time we were there. We walked around the town browsing the shops and stumbled upon a large mall where we spent a couple of hours, not buying much at all but this is what lead us to the big wheel (like a mini version of the London eye) I had already read up about it on the internet, but apparently we were the first group of people to try it out. I didn't think it was that great as it went pretty fast, so you didn't get to sit and relax and see all the views, but we did go around 5 times which made up for it I guess. Took a few photos etc and spotted the Urbis which I had read about on the internet also
Manchester football stadium
Had to take some photos of the stadium. which is a big glass building and inside is different art. To be honest I didn't have a clue what was in it but I knew we should go and see it. I didn't think it was that great inside, but that's only because I don't know how to appreciate weird and wacky art, but I did like looking at the different photos from around the world, some were absolutely beautiful. Later on as we were heading back to the Tram we came across the market again and smelt gorgeous sausages and burgers cooking from a butcher, of course we had to have them... the meat was gorgeous!! I miss that as the meat isn't as tasty here as it is in New Zealand or maybe that's because we aren't buying it from a butcher, we are buying it from supermarkets. Later on that evening we went out to dinner at a lovely Italian restaurant, filled our faces and went home to relax for the evening.
Sunday morning we had a nice sleep in, which was perfect as it was pouring down with rain outside. We had plans to head to a BIG shopping mall called the Trafford centre
Our hotel
This was the reception in the hotel, I liked it as it was Funky! which wasn't that far from where we were staying. We didn't buy much as things were too a bit too pricy, but the actual mall was beautiful, big marble walls and floors, large ceilings and decorations. It was amazing! I wish I had taken my camera, but you don't think of taking your camera to a mall. After spending a couple of hours there we headed back to the hotel and watched tv for awhile before heading out for a lovely mexican meal, which was YUMMY! Nacho's, Pork ribs, cheesecake! what more could you ask for? Once we got back to our hotel the sun decided to show up and we saw a beautiful sunset (as per the picture) so decided to head across the road and take pictures of the Manchester football stadium in all it's glory! it's HUGE!
Monday we headed back home after a lovely weekend away, the trains were absolutely jammed packed and most of the way we had to stand, when we got to our station we were hoping to catch the bus home, but because it was a public hoilday the buses weren't running so we paid £25.00 for a taxi home! I
Laxin
