Edit Blog Post
Well, here's some stat's to start this blog off!!
Up to London, England, we have been on the road for 55 days, visited 8 countries in 3 continents, taken over 3000 photos (published over 900 here), travelled over 49,000km (the earth is 40,000km in circumference!!) and spent money in 8 different currencies!! There you go...pretty fun isn't it!!
But we left you when we leaving NY, getting on the plane to London for a few days. Now, we did travel around London a fair bit because we were trying to get photos of all the Monopoly board places, but we missed 3 of them, so I'm not going to add those photos to this blog until we finish it when we come back!!! So let's go for a few days at once to try and keep this one short!!
Day 53 - Tuesday, 23rd November we arrived at London in the morning, and caught a VERY full subway line into the city to then catch a cab to Bryn & Lois' place (Mischa's cousin). From here, we had a bit of shut eye to catch up on some sleep, and then decided what to do. First off, we headed off with
Bryn to a local pub to have some 'lunch', and then Jess needed to get some socks and shoes as she had no closed-in shoes left!! After this, Bryn had to head off to work, so we jumped on the subway into the city to see a movie or show. We went into Leicester Sq, found a discount tickets place and went and saw Jersey Boys. Jess loved it as it was a different style of theatre which involved the same set being modified with push-in props changing the set. It started off a bit boring, but once they got into the hit songs that they made, it was very good!! So much so that we bought the cd!! 😊 After that, that day was pretty much done as we arrived back to Bryn's place at 12:30, but as we had had a sleep during that day, we decided to update everyone with our NY blog, so we went to sleep after 2am!!
This didn't help our next days plan as we slept in til after 12midday, so we decided that we would try and visit all the Monopoly board places. This proved to be a lot bigger mission than
we thought, but we did manage to visit over half of the places from 3pm-6:30pm, before we went off and got some dinner at a pretty flash looking restuarant (but had 2 for 1) which made it come into our budget. We then had bought movie tickets to see Harry Potter 7: Part 1 at one of the biggest cinema's I've ever seen!!! It was like an old theatre, with 2 storey seating and the screen went nearly the width of the stage. But then, after the ads finished, they dropped the curtain, and when it came back up, it was THE TOTAL width of the stage!! It made the snake scenes very big (which Jess closed her eyes for) but it was pretty good. Again, we didn't get home until after midnight, so finally got to sleep at 1am, aiming to be up at 8am to do some washing!!
ANOTHER SLEEP IN!! We think all those huge days for the first half of our trip are catching up with us, as today we didn't get out of bed until 9:30am!! This enable Mischa to look up the Tennis tournament that was happening in London while we were there, and
see that there were tickets available still for todays Midday match. So, we quickly got ready, and then headed off to the brand new O2 arena to watch the ATP Tennis Finals. First up we saw Bryan and Bryan, the number 1 mens' doubles' team, smash some other team before we had the pleasure of watching Roger Federer vs Robin Soderling. It was fantastic to see Fed, and he played well enough to win, which got him into the Semi-finals. We had great seats, right on the net line but about as high as you could get! After the match we continued with our Monopoly challenge, trying desperately to finish it. On our walk last night we walked past the Lyceum Theatre where the Lion King was showing o we booked tickets for the 7:30pm show tonight... We managed to find all but 3 stops, but we didn't want to be late for the show, the whole time we were looking it was dark though as the sun was going down around 4:15pm every day! The Lion King was very entertaining, the cast and costumes were incredible, such imagination. It is almost identical to the movie so we knew the
songs and storyline very very well. But yet another late night on the town.... Our final day was one of those days that you prefer to not remember... we slept through our alarm, not a good start, it ment that we missed doing some of the attractions we wanted, but what can you do? We took off to try and finish the Monopoly challenge only to realise that Mischa had read the time wrong and we had an extra hour, it didn't help though because we had to still go a fair way... We had put on some washing but when we got back to Bryn's it must have been on the wrong setting 'cos it hadn't spun properly and was dripping wet when Mish took it to the dryers. So we only had an hour to get the washing dry and get to the station for our train to Lichfield. We let it dry for 20 mins but it wasn't long enough, we wrapped it in plastic bags and packed it then ran to the station. Unfortunately, we missed our train by about 10 mins..... 😞 at least it wasn't a plane ticket! We purchased new tickets for an
hour later and rang Uncle Jeff to let him know, we grabbed some lunch and then hopped on the train... it was very full, we actually had to stand up for the 1st hour until some seats cleared then we had a sweet ride for the 2nd half! We finally arrived about 5:30pm and it was -2 degrees and freezing! But more about that in the next blog... Bye for now 😊
