Hey people!
Jit = Normal
Kay = Bold Right so as you all know Kay and myself are going on a world tour in February 2009. It's something we’ve always wanted to do and it's an amazing feeling to actually get up and do something about it.
We thought we’d set up this blog to keep y’all up to date about where we are in the world and you can drop in and check up on our progress
(otherwise known as a tracker for the folks!). Feel free to leave you're comments and all and we promise to try and keep this thing up to date, so check back regularly.
It's quite a funny story how this all came about. It's all started back in February 2008 when Kay and I went to see Vicky and family up in Scunthorpe. Vicky’s younger brother and sister, Andy and Coz, had just started their round the world trip and were at that point in Asia. Vicky was showing us their blog and we saw a picture of Coz stroking a tiger at the Tiger Temple, well we both just looked at each other and went ‘WOW! We so want
to do that.’
So after a great weekend away (thank you Vicky and family), we came back and spoke about going somewhere nice the following year. Kay wanted to go to Lapland originally but Thailand (where this Tiger temple is) and Malaysia took over and she wanted to go for 6 weeks. I told her there was no way I could do this as I couldn’t get the time off work. We argued….A LOT, and we agreed on 3 weeks.
Actually two weeks but I will let you keep it at 3! I started my internet search and came across the STA travel website which allows you to create you're dream trip. I thought I’d do it for a laugh and put in all the countries I would like to visit.
In other words Jit discovered the world and realised how close countries were to each other, something that I should never have let happen. I was shocked at the price it chucked back at me. That night I spoke with Kay and the conversation went something like this
Jit “How about we forget just Thailand”.
Kay “(disappointed) What do you mean” Jit “How about we go
on a World Tour instead?”
Kay “WHATTTT” Jit “I mean we will be spending a bomb going on a package tour, so why not save up a little more and just do it”
Kay “Ok, I'm in!” (did not give in that easily!) Jit “(slightly surprised) oh, wow ok then, We are going on a world tour then”
The next night we spoke with parents and just like that we had decided to go on this life changing trip.
Again it was not as simple as that, parents took a little work, as being Indian and being a girl did not warrant a simple yes but a sales pitch. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Explore. Dream. Discover." -- Mark Twain
3 months was the limit then, but by using my persuasive skills, I managed to get up this time to 7 and half months (I'm still aiming for at least 8!!!).
Oh no your not, my mum will say something about that! We have spent the past 7 months planning every aspect of this trip. It's been mad, and still doesn’t seem real. It's kind of a weird feeling. Not really sure what it is. Not excited, not scared, not nothing really.
Jit still keeps discovering new places to visit within the countries we are visiting, we both just wish we had more time and can understand why people spend like 4-5 months in just one country.
We booked our tickets on June 21st and have bought most of our travel gear. Backpacks, First aid kits, all the little bits like universal sink plugs and washing lines (how sad does that make us sound)!!!
I have even got disposable toilet seat covers so we can sit on a toilet seat in the knowledge of it being clean. I mean we’ve pretty much thought of everything and I personally think we are well over prepared, but hey that cant be a bad thing…can it!?! We’ve got loads of gadgets (obviously my idea) and I think we are pretty much set. Just the long (not that long) wait to go!!!!
Check back soon and be prepared for a pair of nervous wrecks as the time draws closer!!!
City/Place we are looking forward to the most:
Guilin (China) Hong Kong (China-ish)
