In the UK right, and then what? Well in planning my stay here in Brighton I thought to myself 50 per cent travelling UK and Europe in cheap airlines and train, 30 per cent meeting people from everywhere and ofcoz 20 per cent studying. I know it supposed to be the other way round but I have it that way because ' I CAN'. So what has happened after a week in Brighton?
Well first thing first, the scope of work looks terrible at first I thought they knew I have only dedicated 20 per cent of my time on studies so they were intentionally trying to interrupt that. But they are not actually, that is how they do their business. So there will be lot, lots and lots of studies to get through before one can claim to be a post graduate alumnus from Sussex. Ok enough about serious matters now.
I must say the UK has been kind to me, ofcoz beside food. At times I feel like the meat stays in the fridge for a year before it gets sold. No offence to the brits. Anything else has been amazing, ofcoz the working public transport, meeting
people from Columbia, Spain, Australia, Kenya you name this places even South Africans. So Saturday night, 21st August 2012, was my first night out. Meet a lady from Germany and Ireland, very interesting people. Basically you walk around Brighton, called the capital of gays, don't know if it is politically correct to say that in public. Eventually you try and find less crowed bar if you don't want to be jumping up and down, screaming to talk to a person next to you. There are lots of such places, played a bit of pool and the night went. The next thing I check it was Sunday morning. Sunday I tried to organise myself the usual doing laundry, trying to be a post graduate student and study and rest. If you’re not use to night life one night out can be very tiring.
The rest of the week basically consisted of waking up around 9 am; I know some of you who have to go to work every day are jealous. I know, I would be myself but if you find out that I sleep around 12 to 1 then you may change your mind. During the day, are lectures,
seminars in between and a short trip to the library at times. The whole student situation has been great. Secretively, I have already started thinking on where can I find funds to do PhD, seriously considering it. So during the week, there was nothing eventful and so the week went by very fast.
So from what you read up here, it is all nice and easy going, but Wednesday I had one of those days where I just wanted it to end. In the morning it was all nice and sunny outside, ok I didn't make it a habit to look at the weather before I get dressed. Quite frankly in South African the weather forecast is always or most the opposite of the actual weather you get the next day so who can blame me. So in my shorts to campus, and an All Star, during the day I start walking towards Sussex house because I need to sign up for some receipts that the scholarship people need to receive. They are giving me such a hassle and a disturbing que. So it starts raining horribly to a point where everything in me expect papers and books was
soaking wet. I remember walking to my place I gave up eventually and just walk. Even thought to myself, it has been such a turf day, I am hungry so I can cry and let it out no one will even notice, but ofcoz I didn't cry. But I have had a fair share of disturbing days when I just want to go to bed. Not interesting to talk about, most of it should be forgotten soon after it happen.
So yes, this weekend instead of a night out I choose to do an 8 kilometre walk with some of the MA candidates, lectures and anyone who was interested. Eastbourne, the cost preferably for retirement, for once I was not in front of an iPhone or half naked girls. It was just old people, I mean lots of old people going about their usual business of doing nothing serious. I envy them, if I have to retire at such place I am sure my life expectancy will be as high as I want it to be. The place is beautiful and full of fresh air. Expensive I must say, I bought a hot chocolate for £2.56 pound of which in
campus is more or less £1. The walk was lovely, lot of history and exciting thing to see. At some point I was standing in a pick of 90 degree steep of land down to the sea and I was told, in England that spot is well known for highest number of people committing suicide. Took lots of pictures and enjoy the sea/country side of Eastbourne. I must go and have lunch when I have spare pounds and tired of Brighton speedy student live.
I think I should cut it here for now; I am glad people are not sending me an e-mail and ask how everything in the UK is because I have a blog, thank you technology. And thank you for reading, don't ask me when do I get time to do this, we make time for every little thing we want to do.
