Interlaken
View from the B&B Window... So another May bank holiday... where to go?? I know Switzerland, at least I can get there without a schengen visa!! So we left on Friday afternoon from City airpot (such a nice airport - they dont loose your bags :-) and landed in Zurich. Then took a 2hour train ride up to Interlaken. Got there rather late and got a wee bit lost in finding our accommodation which literally was a stones throw from the train station.
Saturday we went took a little mountain train up to Schynige Platte, 2000m above sea level. From the top was an amazing panoramic views of the Alps. There is also an alpine garden with 500 species of flowers, but it wasnt in bloom yet... We had a yummy lunch at the top and played in the snow... of course clever me had flip-flops on, not great when you have to walk in snow!!!
Sunday we hired bikes and cycled to Thun Lake and around the area. The water is just so green and clear, then we took a red funicular which takes only 8 minutes to travel from the valley station in Interlaken up to the Harder Kulm (1322 m). We

Wooden house outside our B&B were able to get a bird's-eye view of the entire Jungfrau Region and looked over the Lakes of Thun and Brienz. Again we had sunday lunch at the top. In the afternoon we took the train back to Zurich. We went to a swiss restuarant for dinner and had a swiss cheese fondue, urrgg the cheese was far to mature!!!
Monday we spent the day around Zurich in the old town by now the feet were starting to feel the affects of walking for 3 days sightseeing.. In the afternoon we took our flight back to rainy grey london.
