Hey everyone Im sorry it's been a while I've been busy! So last time i spoke to you all I was heading out Bowling with all of the other Erasmus students and we also ended up playing pool afterwards. Bowling was going abysmally until I started bowling with my left hand lol I have a theory that I should be left handed because I'm ambidexterous so i can write with both hands and my handwriting with my right hand is awful! also when I was little I sucked my right thumb :-P and most people who suck their thumbs suck the opposite one from the one they write with. Apparently I also use to draw with two crayons one in each hand and in school they used to take one away so i've ended up right handed but after bowling im convinced :-P lol if I bowl better left handed then i should be left handed!
But anyway Bowling was awesome I got three strikes one after the other after i started using my left hand, unfortunately i did so appallingly when I was bowling with my right hand that i didnt win lol. After we'd been bowling
we went to play pool wich was fun but im not very good at it! I had a lot of fun with everyone though it was a good evening. We ended up in Max - Trollhattan's version of Mc Donalds and I had chips and a drink (as a snack lol i ate dinner earlier) before walking back with everyone.
So that was Tuesday evening, and on Wednesday I Did some studying and reading and I also cleaned the flat and cooked Spaghetti Bolognaise for dinner.
Thursday I had A lecture again (Power Gender Ethnicity) and It was good to start getting our teeth into the topics. We had a very interesting discussion within the group of us because our group consists of Me (British), three Irish girls, two Italians a boy and a girl, Two girls from Namibia and one girl from Turkey. We discussed the differences in cultural beliefs and the country's attitudes to topics like abortion and the role of gender and the opportunities that we had within our cultures and whether we had to get an education or learn to be good housewives (for the girls anyways) and how these
issues are changing with time.
Friday Daytime was fairly uneventful until the evening when Cooked dinner for three friends and we all got ready for the first common room party. There is a communal flat in the building next door which we can use and it has a pool table and a sauna yes I said a sauna! Although we didnt use it this time. (The girls are planning a no boys allowed sauna party.) So there was music and dancing and German Liquor shots and it was epic. And it got to 3 am when I went to bed and miraculously woke up with no headache! I know Im not really the going out and staying out really late type but it was fun and I didn’t want to leave. I don’t think i’ve enjoyed a party so much for ages if ever i haven’t got that many to compare it too!
So as a result of the night before Saturday was a very lazy day and a long lie in! And I had dinner with four friends (two from Germany and one from Holland and one from Latvia) in the evening at
a friend’s flat it was awesome food and awesome company. I was invited to join a day trip that a few people were going on the next day. I Spoke to Rowan on Skype later on J which was nice.
Sunday I got up early and went to my two German friend’s flat for breakfast with my friend from Holland a friend from America a friend from Latvia and one of the German girl’s boyfriend who came to visit her. After breakfast we walked to the train station to catch a bus :-P yes I know its weird but the bus terminal is right next door lol! We got the bus to Lidkoping which is a town/city that is bigger than Trollhattan but not really British city size. We were supposed to be getting a bus from there to a castle which is by the biggest lake in Sweden (I actually think it’s the biggest lake in Europe definitely the biggest in Northern Europe though). But the buses to the castle don’t run until the summer So we just went around the town which had some really nice Swedish architecture and also went to see the lake
It really actually looks like the sea except the water is fresh and so it looks a bit muddy not like the blue sea lol. But if you didn’t know it was a lake you would think it was the sea.
Monday was also fairly uneventful, I did my washing so I now have clean clothes lol. But I was quite proud of myself because I managed to work out the washing machine even though everything was written in Swedish. Its mad that they don’t have English instructions too seeing as there are so many Erasmus students but i guess it improved my understanding of Swedish so maybe there’s method in the madness :-p.
Tuesday, I started a new class today: Global English and Online media discourses. We had a guest speaker from the UK i think she said she worked at York Uni, Angela Goddard. Anyway she gave us a really interesting lecture about English and how that language has changed over time and how it is used in different cultures. Also that it is used globally for industry, trade, businesses, politics and the media etc. She also showed us a Telegraph article
titled If the English don’t speak English then who will, It basically is an article showing the conservatives getting their knickers in a twist because a Dr Mario Saraceni gave a talk saying that english people dont own the english language because of the different global contexts that english is used for worldwide. But I mean really how can you own a language? It was a very interesting lecture, very thought provoking.
So anyway thats me for now its an essay again I do apologise :-p lol im impressed if you made it this far and I will talk to you all again soon. Loads of Loves XxX
Ps I was going to post photos but the computer is being an arse so i will post them tomorrow XxX
