Some ice sculpture in Krasnoyarsk
Arrived in Krasnoyarsk at 4am, which as you are well aware i wasnt too excited about- however all was not as disasterous as it appeared to be, as Krasnoyarsk is 4 hours ahead of moscow i was really arriving at 8am. which is a little more civilised.

I hopped off the train (which is damn hot) and was instantly sapped of any heat at all; it was -22 and i was wondering about aimlessly. bad idea. But never fear dear reader, for i am no fool and promptly adopted a heat-conserving strategy of my own design that allowed me to stay more comfortable. it is as follows.

walk down street for a bit taking in siberian ambiance;

dive into cafe, drink and eat something hot

walk a litte furthue on after having warmed up;

dive into cafe..

a very successful and surprisingly economic way of seeing the town as tea and cake is usually less than 40p.

After i had seem a few museums, (one designed to look like an egyptian temple for some reason) and eaten well i looked in on a few churches and wondered about, the temperature had risen to a sub-tropical -20 once the sun had come up so sightseeing was marginally more bareable.

Took the 8pm train to Irkutsk and here i am, i have seen a little of the town but as i shall be here for a while (getting mongolian visa) i have been in no rush to be touristy. if you look at the map you will see that Irkutsk is next to the enormous Lake Baikial which i am excited about seeing, however the hostel in which i am staying is empty and the guy that does the adventuring stuff is away, i think the climbing and mountaineering excitement takes place in the summer months.

cheerio i shall write again once i have done lake baikial before i leave for mongolia.
