Yesterday we reached Moscow, we were quite lucky as we had bought second class tickets to come from St Petersburg, but the agency made a mistake and we end up with 1st class tickets, meaning that we were on our own in a cabin (2nd class is a four berth cabin) and we had breakfast included. All this without paying an extra penny :-).
The first impression that I had from Moscow is that everybody likes to spit on the floor and you have to be very careful when you leave your rucksack on the pavement. Russia is very funny, there is Police and militars everywhere and groups of children dressed as militars.
Another thing that has really caught my curiosity is their customer service skills (or lack of them). The guys don't give a shite!!! e.g. yesterday we were checking in at the Hotel and next to me there was a guy trying to check in as well, the receptionist announced to him that his reservation was for the 26th of September and not the 19th of September, handed the paper back to the guy and that was it, she just said "Your reservation is not for today" and left!!!!.
The guy went with his luggage to the corner and started making a phonecall. Weird.
After we checked in as you can see on the photo we went to the Red Square and what an amazing sight. I could not beleive it, it just felt like I was looking at a postcard when I was in front St Basil's cathedral.
Moscow it is very big but very normal, I felt like it could have been any city in any country once outside the Red Square, however I have to say the churches with twisted golden domes remind you that actually you are in Russia.
We really took time to relax in Moscow, I think we really needed it, so we did not visit Museums nor places of interest, except for Lenin's Mausoleum. The Mausoleum is only opened a few our in the morning from Monday to Friday and as it is located in the Red Square, to control the queues to the Mausoleum they close the Red Square (a bit OTT, if you ask me). To get to the Mausoleum you must pass a metal detector and put all your bags, cameras and mobile phones in a left luggage. Once inside the Mausoleum everything in very dark, they have used dark stone to build it and you can hardly see the steps, an officer went to Ade and started pointing at him and telling him in a very angry way to take his hands out of his pockets!!!!
Lenin (if that body exposed in the glass cabin was him), looked like a figure from the wax museum, and they had (very thoughtfully) closed his right hand so it look like a fist. There are some people that argue that Lenin is actually buried in Saint Petersburg with his Mum. Now you choose what to believe.
Next day, Ade decided to buy The Da Vinci Code (to read on the train) and when we went to pay. OH NO!! Where is my wallet, Maria!!! It was in my pocket!!!!Bas****s, someone has stolen it, WHO WAS IT? (muttered Ade while looking angrily at everybody at the bookshop) We need to phone the Bank to cancel the cards, we have to go to the Police (said Ade in a panic), but then all the sudden, maybe I left it in the Post Office, run Maria, run. And there it was, Ade's wallet waiting for us (to be honest, I almost kill him).
After that we bought some food and the train journey waited us.
