Leningrad Station MoscowLeningrad Station MoscowLeningrad Station Moscow

Train 117 finally arrived at our destination much to our releif - Our bladders were truely thankful...
Found our "Lenin Hostel" easily, 20mins walk from the station.

Proper "Doss house"
But great like minded characters staying there.
After trading adventures, off we went to visit the sights.

Luckily we were able to walk on Red Square that day (they closed it off for the rest of our stay)
Others from the hostel were not so lucky.

Must say we felt a lot safer here.
There were lots of assorted uniformed guys here.
Also lots of smart black suited guys with radios - They were in abundance.
They looked very menacing in certain areas.
Couldn't get over the array of weaponry used by the guards etc - Ranging from automatic rifles to hand guns.

Later Skid was elated to find he was sharing an 8 dorm with six girls, but soon tired of the mess.
This lasted for 2 nights then we shared a 5 dorm with 3 guys - much tidier and skim seemed very pleased......

Moscow is not yet geared up for the tourists, unlike St Petersburg.
No tourist information centres, the metro is more difficult to get around (no map of the

4 floors up, over looking the garden ring road.
metro provided).
No supermarkets to be found, apart from the ones aimed at the wealthy with expensive imported goods.

The locals shopped at the small covienence stores (Just like the one in Open all Hours with Ronnie Barker)
Also in the subways where they sell just about everything from food to clothes.
Bought the cheapest cigarettes yet, only 19p a pack, and beer 50p a bottle.

We think 4 days is enough time to spend here.
We now look forward to our next adventure aboard the Trans Siberian Express heading to China.
