Day 1:
Terminal 5 = magic, especially B Gates? B gates gut
yes, well. We left Mopsy's at 2 am for a 6 20 flight, the taxi only took an hour. Wayne if you're out there, you're a real hero. but, unbeknown to us, check-in didn't open till 5 15 so we were forced into socialising with DJ Shadow and his 20 plus entourage, striking up a particularly close bond with the mental nuts Australian sound engineer/drug supplier. even weirder was that they were on the same flight as us. turns out UNKLE were playing a festival in Bucharest.
anyway back to our trip. after emerging from our airborne prison we were welcomed by our hostel escorts. already flopsy's feet were giving him grief, claims of trench foot were rife.
it is hot, the nights are short so its always hot. really really hot. 30+ even in the evenings. thankfully all forms of liquid are cheap, however only carbonated forms are available. iced tea has replaced water. showers = sticky. however it has helped jemimah's tea withdrawal symptoms.
we basically walked around all day, returning to the hostel for butter, bread and beer (isn't that a
bolshevik slogan?) although ms tiggywinkle invested in some fancy cheese. flopsy was struggling to stay up so flopsy and mopsy, under the supervision of mr mcgregor, retired to bed at 6 30 for a solid 12 hours.
Day 2:
6 am sleeping
6 01 still sleeping
etc
7 am - wake up bright and sweaty for breakfast
7 10 - sleeping
7 15 - startled wakening of mr mcgregor followed by quick breakfast.
on recommendation we marched on down to the palace of parliament, via the train station to book sleeper to belgrade. the palace, the second biggest building in the world which was initiated in 1984 (still 10% unfinished, another failure of capitalism), required 700 architects and 2000 workers working 24 hours a day over 3 shifts for 5 years to near completion. poor guys had to work like Guanaco (Word of the Day - large species of llama used as beasts of budren). Ceauşescu demolished half of the old city to make way for it. it's real big.
see pictures to follow.
ta-ra for now. and bring on the morrow.
