Romania
Just in Romania: Jane and Gerrit's camper passing a horse and wagon. Our first day in Romania. Easter Sunday. This morning we got together in the Centre of Hope, the main mission station here in Medias. We had lunch there with the team and then headed out to church in two tiny villages in the country in Lunca and Lodroman. In Lunca a single lady had been praying for a church for years, and now there was one established. She greeted the team with lilac flowers, oliebollen and cooked eggs. We carried on to another tiny little church with about fourteen people, mainly youth and very elderly. This is where they'll be building an outhouse as there is no water and no bathroom. They treated us to coffee and homemade goodies and more boiled eggs after the service. They were very friendly. One girl and boy were able to translate the service. The road to this town takes through the most poluted city in the entire world, declared so by the UN. The lead in the city is so high that women are not even recommended to sweep their homes. Life expectancy is 42. There are many birth defects and still births. We picked up some young christian people there. They looked terrible
Father's House
Our room at the apartment at Father's House. Hailey had chocolates, flowers, and cake baked! and had a persistent, harsh cough. The smelters continue to billow out their pollution constantly and will do so till 2012. There was also a rubber burning plant; the trees in the area are dead and the roofs of the houses, once red tile, are pitch black.
We just had supper and hope to spend some time debriefing and praying for tomorrow as that's our main planning day. On Tuesday we will be starting the projects.
Two little street kids came to see us today at Centre of Hope while we were there. We played with them for a while. When Peter came they told him that they had had nothing to eat all day. We had just cleaned up all the lunch, so Peter asked if we had leftovers. We had just put the leftovers in two little plastic bags with two sandwiches each, just the perfect amount for the two kids. God really showed us that He cares for the orphans already before they ask! We had not planned to have any leftovers at all; we'd tried to give all the food away, but somehow had those two little bags left over!
